I'm a big fan of revolvers in general for self-defense (assuming you don't have children in the house). Most reliable gun design and has high stopping power. Easy to safe and easy to fire from safe.

i know very little about firearms (europoor) but revolvers are cool (and as far as i know pretty reliable) but the long ass barrel looks like it'd be a pain to use as anything but a wall hanger or competition gun

I think it’s overkill for pretty much anything. But if you really have to have a monster like that in your hands, why not consider a .460 magnum instead? They’ll chamber .454 Casull, too, so you’ve still got more stopping power than you’ll realistically ever need, plus more options, and a round that’s been around a hell of a lot longer?
