Well, I was raised to be an atheist and to view all religion through the lense of secularism, and to view science with the highest regard. I understand why my father feels this way, but to me, the atrocities of atheist nations in the 20th century has proved to me that when science and technology outpaces man's moral and spiritual development, it can have really ugly consequences.

I'm inclined to agree. We're all on a path towards something, more often than not it's a path of our own choosing. Christian thought places an intense value on an individual persons life, and anyone that guides themselves with concern for other's wellbeing has a healthy path to follow.
