this is why leftist parties, especially in europe are for open boarders. Guy from South America here (coutry doesn't matter cuz all are the same shit). I have to agree with Trump on closing the borders cuz some of us (Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Panama) wants to do the same with Venezuelans. Open borders actually bring the worst people. Even skilled workers are not that special nor needed. We have massive unemployment rates (even on recent graduates) and all cuz migrants work for less than the basic wage (illegal in most cases) they have flooded our job market. Common to see a migrant on every industry. Obviously they are not good people otherwise their country wouldn't be a fucking mess. Also even if the US open its borders, they are not able to help everyone. Job market will crash same as you're public services. Taxes wouldn't be enough to satisfy the demand, and economy will crash along with everyone else. So good on Trump for keeping migrants out. Now, if the US wants to solve this problem somehow they should agree on reasonable trade deals with South American governments.

Unfortunately, this is already a reality, although few here will admit it. The US is drowning under a massive debt load and can hardly make interest payments on its own national debt. That's the real reason why our central bank (the Federal Reserve) keeps interest rates artificially low - if interest rates were anything like the +7-8% like they were in the past it would surely trigger a sovereign debt crisis.
Our politicians from both political parties are working hard to keep the population ignorant and by continuing to delay the inevitable. Our generation has become addicted to the artificial booms fueled by politicians pushing cheap money solutions, rather than any substantive improvement in the economy. Each round of stimulus (money printing) is a shot in the arm aimed to "keep the party going". Each shot means more borrowing and less savings, more spending and more consumption - more excess, while eroding away our valuable manufacturing and capital investment capacity.
As time passes the distortions created by a centrally planned economy become more apparent, as assets continuously inflate and the country becomes mired in debt, it also becomes less and less competitive with the rest of the world. Additionally, the increased risk from our massively increased national debt calls into question the overall solvency of the currency, and we are already seeing other countries (our lenders) begin to move away from the US dollar as the world's reserve currency.
Once the crisis of confidence peaks, and the dollar loses its international reserve currency status... it's game over.
