What do you need help with, this is literally self explanatory

you add d to both sides then minus the 1/1+i correct to get the 2nd line?

then cross multiply to get like terms, yes?

1st: 1 is subtracted from both side
2nd: Both sides are divided by -1
3rd: 1 is substituted by (1+i)/(1+i)
Then, you can add the fractions because they have the same denominator.

Nope!!
They substitute 1 for the term (1+i/1+i) because if you solve that operation the result is literally 1, it's another form to write 1, like (2+x/2+x) that's 1 also. Then you have same denominator and the numerators are solved directly. The result is (i/1+i)

what are you, 14?

Stop getting high before class, this is literally easy as fuck

Are you still confused or should I get whiteboard?

Bored? why not check this extremely hot active server, for the besst lewds of females and traps!

discord gg/E8smxDG

idk sure, if I keep being embarrassed to ask questions I'll never improve and keep being dumb

why don't you watch khan academy?

I bet you understand the second line cuz you're just rearranging stuff. The "1" turning into "1+i/1+i" is probably it.

What's 5/5? 1. How about 15/15? 1. So, how about x/x? Also 1. So, why not (1+i)/(1+i) = 1?

Now simplify answer, common denominators, add like terms.

Attached: 20190921_170248.jpg (2160x1215, 784K)

The tricky part is using the 1 and turning it into something that's useful. It's a math trick that seems unfair but is completely legal mathematically. It's all about equality.

oh come on. I didn't say anything so far, but calling this simple step a "trick" is fucking off limits.

If you've never seen it before, it feels like a fucking trick. They do same thing in integral calculus in certain trig proofs.

thank you, this makes it easy to understand

There is literally nothing tricky about this. To add a whole quantity to a fraction, you turn the whole quantity into a fraction that has the same denominator.

I'd call something like "adding a zero" quite a tricky thing sometimes.

but just extending a 1 to a fraction with equal nominator and denominator is just ... how could someone NOT see this?

There's nothing tricky about it, TO YOU. But trust me, people struggle with this all the time. Not every one has a strong mathematics disposition.

Bruh how fucking old are you? You need to be 18 for this site

because I'm embarrassed to ask questions in class because people laugh and say this kind of thing to me. So to avoid embarrassment I don't ask questions. It's easier to hide my grades than to hide my stupidity when I ask questions

Some people are better at seeing the logical consequences of 1 and matching numerator and denominator. Other people struggle profusely. Recognizing that not everyone is on the same page is catamite to the learning and teaching process.

Talk to teacher after hours, office hours, email, something. You'll never get better without proper guidance.

because the world is full of assholes. just ask whatever questions you want. i don't people that are dumb because they don't want to learn. but if you want to learn something and if someone gives you a hard time for trying to understand, then they are the ones that are fucked up

You should be embarrassed, this is hilariously easy as hell to understand and do. Are you black?

at least I have Yea Forums. I live in the countryside so even if I tried to get a tutor

1) I don't have money
2) my mom is a hoarder so bringing people over would be embarrassing

These are not ideal conditions I'm working with here but I have to get back to studying.

Thanks to those who took the time to help me understand.

Don't listen to this faggot. user probably failed math and is now projecting their anger and hostilities towards you.

Just keep practicing. You don't get better at math by not practicing.

think about this. there are a lot of people that would see that problem, not understand it at say to themselves "lololol who cares about math". then there is op that knows that it's not a super hard problem but he wants to understand it and he knows some idiots like you will ridicule him for wanting to learn. yet he asks anyway because he wants that knowledge. who's the dumbfuck in this situation. clearly you are. get rekt

Just keep at it. Building a strong foundation requires understanding underlying principles and how they can be applied to help solve equations. Most times knowing the process means you can infer how that process can be applied to similar yet different equations. Email or talk to your professor and as a fall back you can always find material on youtube or other parts of the internet. For a lot of struggling students I know they turn to youtube or khan academy because seeing something being worked out can be more helpful than someone explaining the process.

Are you seriously telling me this is fucking hard to you? This is literal grade school math. So OP is either a literal child or he's a nigger.

OP is the dumbfuck. How the fuck does a grown ass fucking adult not understand fractions? There is a strong chance OP is underaged. This is math that fucking 2nd graders do.

did op say he's an adult? even if he is, so what? he wants to know now. you'll simultaneously condemn someone for not having this knowledge and for wanting to attain it. do you see how ridiculous that is??

It's not hard to me, but I've learned it.

2nd graders learn about multiplication.

This problem has i in it, which could possibly be imaginary.

Your close minded attitude about math is why you're a faggot cunt. Prove me wrong by winning a Fields medal or stfu.

>It has i in it
>Therefore it's not grade school math!

Stop trying to fucking justify OP not knowing how to do literal grade school math. The i in this problem is clearly a variable.

So you're admitting that OP is a fucking child? If so he's not old enough to post here. Why do you want literal children posting on fucking Yea Forums? Are you a pedo?

Now multiply by the complex conjugate of the denom to express it fully as a complex #

Do not give up OP i sucked at calculus and algebra in highschool and now i'm among the best engineering students in my year.

Just do as much problems as you can and you will eventually get good at it, you can't study math by just reading you actually have to comprehend what you are doing.

Attached: videla.jpg (188x268, 8K)

0/10 attempt.

>Your close minded attitude about math is why you're a faggot cunt. Prove me wrong by winning a Fields medal or stfu.

What part of this didn't you understand? I assumed a grown ass adult could understand a straight forward sentence like this. It's not hard. You must be a compete retard.

Except Calculus is considered college level math. This is literal grade school shit.

i went to a technical highschool

If he doesn't understand how to do this, then he is trying to solve too advanced a problem. He needs to go back and properly understand how things like 2 + 1/3 work before getting into algebraic problems, particularly ones with two-part denominator problems.

OK but why?

he said he sucked at algebra too. you conveniently overlooked that so you could be dense dick on purpose. congratulations you succeeded.

I have to win a fucking "fields medal" before criticizing someone for not being able to do 1st grade math? Are you for real right now? People like you are exactly why public schooling is such a fucking joke in the USA.

it's imaginary, so don't worry about it and go eat your chicken tendies

Understanding fundamentals is critical I agree. But that didn't mean the level is too difficult. It means they need to review more. Typically students are not thrown into math levels they're not ready for, or haven't tested into

Because even sucking at algebra is better than not being able to do fucking fractions of all things. If you are older than 8 and can't do THIS, you should be fucking embarrassed.

No, but your level of arrogance and condescension regarding math clearly indicate you can do it all, "it's so easy, omg!"

If it's so easy, go win a Fields Medal. Otherwise, stfu and recognize everyone struggles in their own way. You didn't magically know everything. I'm sure you have struggled with learning something at some point.

This is their own unique struggle. Respect that it is their own, not yours.

But they are thrown into maths that they don't understand, because they haven't understood the prior (or sometimes easier) concepts fully, despite them (and in many cases, their teacher) thinking that they have understood it.

There is literally nothing different about 2 + 1/3 and the second line in the first image. They look different, but they are both some whole quantity added to a fraction, and these are exactly the same processes mathematically. The differences start to arise because 2+3 has a further simplification due to our number system, whereas 2+x does not. However, algebra wasn't even the problem here, it's the lack of understanding of fractions.

Point is, he doesn't have the prerequisite knowledge to be attempting to solve this.

Also its shit like this that make me love this place. I get to argue over insignificant things while also doing math... Fucking heaven

you should feel some embarrassment probably. which he does. and that's why he says he's ashamed to ask questions about it in class. but then what? he feels embarrassed and how do you resolve that embarrassment? you ask the fucking questions until you learn. how dense and angry are you? he's trying to fix it so he no longer looks like an embarrassment. how else does he resolve it unless he asks for help? what is your problem with that?

The fact you really think fractions are SO HARD, you have to win the fucking nobel peace prize before criticizing a grown ass man not understanding them, says A LOT more about you than it does me. You're a nigger aren't you? That must be why you think grade school math is fucking hard. Pathetic.

My "problem" is that this dude is most likely a fucking kid and not old enough for this fucking website. OR he's a grown ass man who can't do children's math, which likely means he's black. Either way he should get the fuck out of here.

Ugh why is math even a thing I hate math and I hate people that think math is at all important to civilization like there literally so delusional

You wouldn't be able to make this comment on whatever device you're using if it wasn't for mathematics.

I totally see what you're saying, but I'm conflicted.

Example 1: I take linear algebra and don't understand some basic proofs for vector spaces. Not because I didn't have preq knowledge, but because I didn't understand the concept at the time - it was a new and foreign idea.

Example 2: this student didn't understand the identity property, or didn't recognize it immediately and needed help.

Idk if preq knowledge is the issue or if it is something else. Like I said I see both sides and am conflicted.

you're a racist as well. that's sad. hopefully someday you'll get your head straight.

see this is the guy we should be saying is an embarrassment. doesn't know and thinks it's not important.

Fuck you're baiting me, but it feels so good to respond.

First, Fields Medal is NOT Nobel Prize, and even if it were it would NOT be a Nobel Peace Prize, it'd be a Nobel Prize in Mathematics.

Secondly, fractions ARE HARD for CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS. fuck man, not everyone is made the same. Not everyone learns the same. Everyone is different.

>wah stop being racist

Maybe you should stick to jewbook from now on? They have safe spaces there for fags like you

> fractions ARE HARD for CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS

Yes, they are, and those people are niggers. Are you saying OP is a nigger then?

Prerequisite knowledge and the ability to link what you're doing to what you've learned at the time, except when something comes out of left field. (Vector spaces should not be 100% new if taught properly)

He needs to go back and work on more simple fractions, and use some visual representations to understand just why the processes we do when dealing with fractions actually work. (Be it number bars, rectangles or whatever)

I'm not saying the kid is at fault, it may be he's received poor teaching. But either way, the problem is not appropriate for his level.

one of the idiots here is obviously trolling with weak bait. i'm done retaining l responding to him

>Calculus is considered college level math
lol, amerimutt education

Let me guess, calculus isn't college level because chinks do it in the 5th grade right? Was that what you were planning to say?

Lmfao fuck you nigger faggot pussys

nearly all us high schools offer calculus. obviously you were too stupid to take it

Yeah, and usually those are considered AP classes. Funny how you left that out. By the way how many niggers are in a given calculus college? A handful at best.

Some people aren't Autistic

yes they are ap. how does that change anything? there are offered in high schools. you're pathetic

Because most people in high school aren't taking AP classes you stupid fuck. A large portion of people graduating aren't even proficient in math. Another minor detail you fucking left out. Only person pathetic here is you.

In US schools, the smart kids who will go to college on a real degree study DO take Calc. The retards who will dig ditches, go to trade schools, or major in gender studies don't have to go past Algebra.

Stop being a condescending cunt; this step is completely unintuitive to people who don't have exposure to this field.

I'd recommend checking out youtube for math tutorials... to wit: youtube.com/watch?v=1l1XzthGg9Y

good up until the last line.
the last line is just rewriting 1 as (1+i)/(1+i)

it's available in nearly all us high schools. in you suggest it's strictly college level knowledge. that's hard to back up when it's an available course in nearly all us high schools for those that wish to try and take it. ap just means your can get some fake intro college credit for it. there may be some extra barrier from a counselor that'll tell this who obviously going to pass it that they shouldn't waste their time. but anyone that wants to take it pretty much can take it. this refutes your weak bait that it's a strictly college level course. so keep changing your point,
i won't fall for it and i'll be here for a while if that's what you want to do.

I still don't fully understand vector spaces lol. I got through Linear Algebra via brute force, not understanding.

Then that is why you will struggle with the concepts in vector spaces.

I love how you ignored the fact that the VAST majority of HS students aren't taking AP classes. You wanna address that or are you gonna keep on acting like a fucking moron? BTW the "calculus" offered at most high schools is a watered down joke of a course. Another minor detail you leave out so you can be "right".

>vector spaces
You think this fucking retard is gonna do vector spaces?

We're having a conversation in two parts - one about the original problem and one about relating it to the responder's (who is not OP) current struggles in his studies.

Learn to fucking read you dickhead.

sure i already addressed it but you want another (((you))). pretty much anyone can take it. already said that. yes ap calc is definitely watered down. it's high school so they go easy on the students i assume. i took calc in hs and college and college calc was obviously harder even as a freshman. i can't wait to see what you "quote" this time

EASY MODE
d + i - 1 = 0

op here, I was waiting for the red dot to move

Just to give everyone WHY MATH = IMPORTANT

Mathematics is just this:

Count/measure = keep * share * give

c/m = k*s*g

If you are counting or measuring something it is because you are trying to put it into one of those three buckets.

All the advanced faggot stuff isn't important.

Because the red dot is me. The image should explain a lot if you guys think in terms of, "Can I perform WORD given CONDITION?"

Attached: 1564900260827.gif (550x35, 2K)

Are you fucking retarded?

he is being clever. i is not necessarily the unit imaginary number. i thought maybe for a second when i saw this thread that it was imaginary as many of you did, but i think it's probably not in this case

>All the advanced faggot stuff isn't important
>As he says this with his fucking computer

Leave

Example: I keep giving shit, because someone, somewhere, will want to keep measuring or counting it.

Or a farmer grows stuff and keeps some, shares (sells) some to others, and gives to others for parties and celebrations.

Duuh, do you have nephropathy?

Holy shit. Do NONE of you know what the fuck IMAGINARY means? It means SHIT THAT YOU, THE PERSON WITH THE HEAD ON YOUR SHOULDERS READING THIS WORD, IS THE ONE MAKING UP THE IMAGINATION.

*whips out his Network Engineering qualifications* Gee, nobody cares about the maths when it comes to applications of eating/fucking/enjoying time alone. WEIRD, HUH?!

Attached: 1548663764319.jpg (768x1280, 54K)

why not use quaternions instead???

I can even provide a shitposting example.

Mathematically speaking, Anonymous is a dimensionality of 'like I fucking care what some faggot looking at a computer screen thinks', and has the imagination of retard that keeps all the shit, shares none of it, and gives only fucks about their pain and suffering as they keep cutting themselves when tendies run out or muh feminism attacks.

Do you even know who is in this pic?

Attached: 1565616025244.jpg (2880x1600, 256K)

To go from first to second add d to both sides, you get d + 1/(1 + i) = 1 next subtract 1/(1 + i). to go from 2 to 3 anything (except 0) divided by itself is 1 so you can substitute (1+i)/(1+i) for 1

no i do not know who is in that photo.

Mathematical gang bang queen. She's a filthy math slut.

Regardless, anything beyond the standard operations really is just repetition or grammar. BODMAS or PEMDAS, same shit, different day.

Attached: 1560777575056.jpg (768x1280, 93K)

LOL, I actually am a licensed engineer and I don't understand any of it either.
Remember C's and D's also get degree's.

The difference is you're not still in the education system where you need to understand this to make progress in that system. It's not needed for daily adult life, only the problem solving/thinking skills that it develops are.

But you obviously didn't develop enough of those to realise this fact.

The post that proves my fucking point. Mathematics is just about identifying the operations between 'me' and 'not me'.

Because there is LITERALLY no such thing as a perfect clone.

Oh no! Does the western education feed anyone or do anything other than be a massive time-sink of wankering and self-congratulations of being able to present grammar previously unheard?

Attached: 1538030808651.jpg (1200x1600, 629K)

Identity = Evaluation ÷ Priority

Imagination = Memory ÷ Expression

Indoctrination = Master Identity ÷ Slave Imagination

Actually I still am in school, my boss sent me back to learn PHP programming University of Mich Online, and I struggle terribly bad, but they pay for all of my tuition.
My biggest gripe is none of these educational programs are written are written and explained very well. I am a stupid fuck , I just really need a top notch teacher.

How are you struggling to learn PHP? All you need to do to learn programming is fucking practice, just like with math. What teacher you have makes no difference you're gonna end up self teaching anyway.

Programming = What if everything was a variable?

.that shit ain't hard son

It is if you're retarded, hence niggers struggle to learn it

Hm... I wonder how variables get taught in language. I think the best variable to teach is just 'i', or self, or pointing to yourself and going, "I/Me"?

I write my code and have to pull information from different databases and my projects just don't work. I've been stuck on the same project for the last 5 months. There's no help at all in the class except some teachers aid over in England somewhere that really doesn't help at all.
I just wish I had a hands on in the classroom teacher because I am not going to figure it out on my own.

That's just vocabulary. That stuff always takes time to get used to it.

Your teacher sounds retarded btw.

Why don't you just go to tutoring then? You're telling me the fucking U of Michigan doesn't have tutor for this class? I don't buy that for one second.

It's incomplete tho.
The value of d= i/(1+i)

which has a solution for any real number i not equal to -1.

1st to 2nd: you add 'd' to each side and minus 1/(1+i) to each side so you get the positions swapped.

2nd to 3rd: you multiply (1+i)/(1+i) to 1 so you are basically doing 1X1 which is 1 so you still have 1 but now that 1 has the same denominator as 1/(1+i) so you can do the subtraction.

so the final answer would be d = i/(1+i)

Attached: 1568909654097.jpg (1024x532, 145K)

online college is obviously a fucking scam. it's a way to generate more revenue for less overhead by the college. it's a cancer that's corrupting higher ed

For the online class the teachers aid is some guy over in England, he has been most unhelpful and just gives me the run around.

What if i is just a value and not sqrt(-1).

I'm studying MechE at a top University, and have completed all my Math with an A- average; eat a dick, faggot.

Exactly. But that's implicitly stated, I mean it's obvious that 1+i=/=0

Sure you did, that's why you can't even do basic fucking fraction problems

>I mean it's obvious that 1+i=/=0
If you let i = -1, yes it does. Do they not teach you fucking kids how to do math in school anymore?

LoL, common core math is cancer

because he's an underpaid junior prof or postdoc. he's probably handling several online courses so that he can eventually become a real professor that doesn't deal with online courses

Yes they do you retard, that's why I said it's IMPLICITLY STATED. Stating that i=/=-1 it's stating the obvious, unles you need to keep working with the original equation to solve for i. In this case if d is a real number then yes i is equal to any real number except for -1.

This is why I don't take online courses anymore. They just end up being a waste of time.

God damn to fucked up retarded mother fucker. Put down the bong and read your fucking text book

yeah it's sad to say but when anything becomes driven completely by profit motive its value is reduced usually. online college is not considered quality education even by those selling it. it's done purely for money and is even worse if there are stockholders in the mix

Different person, fuckface.

I agree, even the shittest class in person is better than an online class. You can at least ask your classmates and professors questions and help in real time.
