The universe has somehow succeeded in creating consciousness. How that transpired through our evolution was by accident of course but also inevitable in that it would eventually happen somewhere and somewhen. By design or not, it gets to perceive itself because we are it and it is we. Our purpose as individuals may be irrelevant and frivolous but our greater purpose may not be ours at all.

Intelligence is overrated I'd completely agree but I disagree on consciousness. It offers so much more than biological existence on 100% autopilot and gives you a choice.

I always liked the 'Ancient Alien' theory, that we are a genetically boosted slave race, that was left behind after we served our purpose, whatever that may have been. It just ties up a lot of loose ends. Why we worship sky gods. Why we don't fit into the natural order. Why we understand technology, but can't really master it.
