I agree. There is a certain zone that people can get into. You can see it with musicians and athletes. Why is it the case that when a basketball player bounces the ball back to himself before a free throw does he make it a higher percent of the time?

That's partially the problem of consciousness. It's really the biggest hole in atheism. Consciousness is a total mystery.
The only place I've found a real answer is with hermeticism. Their idea is that there is one all encompassing consciousness that is called The All. The All is all things that ever was, is, and could be. It functions much like the human mind. Our universe was created in the same way that we can create images in our mind, so roughly, everything is just a dream in the mind of The All.
It's much more interesting than anything I've found out of religion.
