Black folks dont work the same way as white folks. As far as the overall trend, with more equality comes more independence. Women can operate more independently from men these days, and additionally, women have the choice to have a baby and not be tied down by marriage.

Forgot to mention the media and just overall culture of America and modern society in general has eroded family roles, and valuing those roles. We have added more equity for individual choice, which is a win, but as a result, the positive effects of a traditional family have diminished equally.

A few reasons.

#1) Pussy inflation. Whenever a woman agrees to have sex outside of marriage, they diminish the value of all other women around them. Men don't have to work as hard, or commit as much, to get laid, which weakens the sexual bargaining power of women who want stable relationships. This is why no one hates women more than other women.

#2) Government handouts. Before the days of welfare, being a single mother meant that she was condemned to parasitize off the rest of her immediate family for support. Since no family wants to pick up the slack for her failing, families were invested in making sure that women attracted quality mates. Now, no one cares, because single mothers can suck off the government teat. Grandparents don't have to pick up the slack, fathers don't have to stick around, and single mothers don't have to reciprocate - government writes a check, and everyone is slightly less miserable, but not so miserable that they need to take responsibility for their failings.

#3) Cultural degradation. Because of #1 and #2, more people accept single motherhood as normal, or even something to be proud of, instead of the irreparable child neglect that it is. No one wants to acknowledge their role in ruining the child's future prospects (and pick up the responsibilities associated with that failing), so single parenthood is glorified to maintain social acceptance so that losers can continue to cop out at the child's expense.

The cycle continues, because the abandoned child grows up in a love-starved environment where no father is present and everyone pretends that there aren't any problems. The continued stress of that situation leads the single mother to cannibalize the love of her children, which grow up feeling resentful, unloved, and lied to. Adults who grew up feeling resentful, unloved, and lied to will go into future relationships with that baggage, and will inevitably reproduce it with their own offspring. I've seen a version of this in real life, my sister was widowed after her POS husband knocked her up with her second child. He died shortly after getting out of jail over smuggling heroin across the Mexican border(my theory is he squeeled in exchange for more lienent sentencing and was given a hotshot by his "buddies") so his honorable pension was cut and my sister got nothing.
However, due to the state she now lives in(New York). She takes home more than I make a month just for being unemployed, female, and a mother. I don't make much (~40/year) but I work my ass off for it.
I'm glad my niece and nephew are taken care of but damn. It's so easy to just exist as female...
