Im talking to an Airforce recruiter tomorrow Yea Forums, AMA or alternatively, give me advice.
Im talking to an Airforce recruiter tomorrow Yea Forums, AMA or alternatively, give me advice
This is basically how to get hired
When you die for your country, is someone going to post pictures of your mangled/burnt corpse?
Tell them you’re a dog and you hate to fly
Don't. Go to community college and take a class or 2 and decide what you want to do with your life.
Im not joining for some twisted sense of patriotism, its just a means to an end, im 20 y/o with a dead end retail job, i need to do something with my life and i cant afford college and ill be damned if i go to Philadelphia community college
Answer the fucking question, faggot.
>will someone photograph my mangled corpse
Probably not
Then nobody fucking cares.
Air force here. Don't sign open mechanical(unless you like working with your hands) or open general contract(unless you want to be a cop). If you do good on your ASVAB, hold out for jobs you want. Do not take an open contract. They might threaten to drop you but you can just find a new recruiter if they actually do. Any more questions!?!
im thinking 4 years, what are good questions to ask my recruiter?
Advice: join marines
Do 4 years. Best decision of my life. You can always reup your contract and maybe even get a reenlistment bonus doing so. I honestly cant think of anything too useful to ask your recruiter if you aren't married. If you are figure out BAH and having the AF move her to your duty station once you're done with basic and tech school. Really everything else is shit you can find online without the BS recruiter answers
Do not join the marines.
Im op, So this is a real question. Im a virgin, i was homeschooled from middle all the way through Highschool so i just haven't really had the opportunity to create a meaningful connection, let alone get laid. Shout i hire an escort, or just go through basic a virgin?
Op here, i hear the marines are like literally THE WORST
AF bro here. Was stationed with marines and navy. Fun to drink with, but dear God. Dont do that to yourself
Can i get the recruiter to give me some extra shit written in ink? Apparently the contract is the only thing that matters, so can i get away with anything?
What do you mean...like a sign on bonus? Those are sent out from big air force annually, which you can look up online. I dont know of any "extra shit" you could be seeking though
look man i have no idea, just trying to get every possible advantage
this was a real question btw
depends, some people like their first time to be "special", if you dont give a fuck just get the escort
You can easily fuck in tech school
also forgot to add, I dont know what its really like, but in the movies alll the soldiers get laid when overseas
yeah join the marines if you like cleaning shit
Marines were always the asshats of asshats where I ended up living
You probably wont be signing anything tomorrow. Here's some tips:
You want to do four years, do not sign for six
Study a little for the asvab, I assume you aren't dense so it shouldn't be a problem to get an 80+ on everything which unlocks almost every job to you
Don't be colorblind
Do not tell them about any health conditions or broken bones etc if they are no longer problematic or impair movement etc
Avoid maintenance unless you seriously feel like that's something you wanna do on the outside of the military
Do actual research on the jobs they make you put on the list and do not sign for one you don't want if you don't have to
If you go for comms/intelligence/information be prepared to undergo a Top Secret clearance check during Basic Training, where you can and will be denied for lieing about financial debt, relatives in foreign countries, etc
You have not done any controlled substances or abused any uncontrolled substances. Ever.
I think that's about it, just have common sense. If you have no better opportunities it isn't the worst gig.
Speaking of, does your enlistment start immediately or AFTER basic and tech school?
Enlistment technically begins the day you ship for training
How hard is the asvab REALLY? I just shit at math, im 100% confident in everything else though
well i mean your 4 or 6 year contract
When you go to MEPs, sign that contract and swear the oath
I took it at 30, was all shit I learned in high school (a lot I forgot) and got a 93. You should be fine
Not OP but going in the AF atm, why is 4 years better than 6? My mother, father(Navy 26+years), and friend (AF 6 years) all said to go 6 years.
Are they collectively trying to fuck me over?
The hardest math on the ASVAB is solving for X via quadratic formula. I didn't get anything harder than that, especially since a large chunk is english, some common sense mechanics, and some weird geometry. I do reccomend googling a practice test, they're all generally pretty accurate
Cause it isnt for everyone and you might get a shit job. No coincidence suicide rates are at an all time high
dude you dont know how relieved i am
Also, your recruiter will have you take a practice asvab at their office. You'll get an idea
USAF here w/ Army family; they said it was smart to go AF. Ask to take the DLAB once you get done with your ASVAB. Not sure how smart you are but if you can get a better job, take it.
You trying to do gung-ho shit or have a career/use military for schooling and better opportunities?
If you Must go armed forces, talk to the rep at your college and go officer instead. Way better pay, life, and prospects after you leave. There is no reason to ever go enlisted instead, take this from a former enlisted
Oh okay then. I have a few jobs I'm looking at already that I'm fine doing for a bit & I'm not a fragile faggot so that covers both
It's beneficial if you do 20+, in literally every other situation I would argue otherwise. And in the situation you decided to do 20, you are hindered in almost no ways by not signing 6. Just sign 4, you will be outnumbered for a little bit by A1C's but you get E3 automatically pretty soon after tech school anyway.
Dont listen to this moron I retire in a short nine years. I'm 29.
The commitment to becoming an officer is much larger than becoming enlisted and generally you could finish an enlistment before some people actually commission
Also I'm a maintainer so if you have specific questions about that, go ahead and shoot
If you left to get to basic training today, September 20 2019 and you signed four years you would be done Sept 20 2023 assuming you dont re-enlist or extend
Once you sit down with the recruiter, that's it. 4 years of sitting in chairs.
Suicide rates are at a high, but only because they have begun to come up towards the average rate in the country. They are usually lower.
I'm not in the military but everyone I know who is says they wish they were in the Airforce instead. Good choice, just go with your instincts it's not a hard process at all.
i want to basically use the military training+tech training as a springboard into literally ANY tech field, the only reliable jobs these days. So i MIGHT want to go to college after i get out. My real passion lies in space though, so i figured i might try to become a pilot just to maybe have a chance, but im pretty sure its a pipe dream. Like i said though its just a passion, my realistic side is leaning towards a tech field lol
JUST DO IT
They will pay for your college, and then you commit to 6 years. In return, you will make a -significant- amount more both in and outside the military, and will have a much better life inside
If you don't want to make money then sure
This. I also can't find any statistics behind the demographics that are committing suicide that would prove it has anything to do with work/military stress.
My friend told me weebs are rampant in the enlisted AF ranks and I'm scared, is this true?
>die for country
>air force
retard alert
is there a job list, because i have literally no idea about any of the jobs, all i know is i want a tech field, leaning towards computers
You can go for 4 and re enlist if you want to
There are quite a bit of fucking weirdos for sure...anime and all that shit but there are also some pretty cool dudes that I am glad I have met.
this
army infantryfag here. DO SOMETHING THAT CAN TRANSFER TO CIVILIAN LIFE AFTERWARDS. I dont wanna be a cop and thats basically all I can do.
Also, use your fucking gi bill when you're done. Do your 4 years, if you like it stay in and get schooling, if you decide to get out, use the gi bill. Go to a higher paying state, get bank for BAH, get a degree, you're fucking golden.
>t. incel/not af
i was a 2t2 and i never left the flightline. I worked air force one, loaded icbms, chem weaps, drones, tanks, people live and dead and the list goes on. The jobs are better than every other branch has to offer; if you get in stay overseas, people that join active duty and stay stateside are a waste of space imo and deploy/train more than any person overseas ever does. Go af and enjoy the other branches spouses and you have an actual resume thats not some stupid other branches fridge repair qualifications.
Being a USAF pilot isn't a casual decision and takes years. If you just want to look at and touch big toys then I recommend Structures/Sheet Metal/ASM since it has some relevant civilian aerospace jobs that are in high demand
The biggest advice for going to the recruiter tomorrow: They will sell you to be enlisted. if that's what you want, ask for 1B4X1. They are DYING for Cyber at the moment (coding/ethical hacking/etc).
If you want to become an actual pilot, I would TALK TO A ROTC RECRUITER OR SOMEONE ELSE
Reddit has pretty useful info on most AFSC's, and the AF website will give you a vague idea. Best to look through the AF site then search reddit for those job AFSC's and get a good idea of what you'll actually be doing plus how you can translate that into the civilian world once you're out.
Beware the AF site will glamorize shit jobs
I know quite a few people who just enjoy anime on the side but there are a couple of weebs for every hundred or so.
I got a 64. I have an iq of 115. According do a test i paid for. Online.
This. A job will seem totally different than it actually is by the time you get there. Mine worked out for the better but avoid maintenance unless you KNOW you want to do aerospace mechanics on the outside. It's a great gateway but a relatively not useful skill set to have if you dont wanna work for a fabrication place/airline afterwords
What is cyber?
Dunno, I got a 91 and scored 92 in mechanical, 94 in administrative, 94 in general, and 90 in electrical. I was 16 when I took the test. Shit was high school math and basic ass English with some common sense mixed in.
And here I am. Sheet metal with 93 ASVAB
Cyber = Software/Programming/Information related jobs, very desirable specialties if you want a real desk job imo
No way! 2a7x3 too huh? Let me guess, they stuck you in AFSOC?
bitch I just
coding
ethical hacking
>"as a springboard into literally ANY tech field, the only reliable jobs these days."
it's the biggest tech field right now. the one I NEED EVERY GOD DAMN DAY but not everyone has the balls to train themselves in it.
Why are people scared of the training? I though hipsters loved the coding shit?
Tell him you want to be a real cool mercenary and make a bunch of money from war.
because technical training isn't usually a casual learning experience regardless of the specialty because they have a priority to teach you a years worth of shit in about 3 months or less
I wish. Minot
It's up to the person. I had a ~2y Tech School with a heavy wash out rate (not coding). Going in, you might be hooah, but throughout the course some people might not be able to catch up. To each their own, I guess.
you're wasting your time, the chair force doesn't take Yea Forumstards
Whats the low-down on this spaceforce shit? Is it actually bs or will it be a real thing?
Ha, I can feel that feel. After Pensacola, New Mexico seems like a shithole.
Space Force isn't becoming a "branch" quite yet and probably wont be. The Air Force is the closest thing for now and likely will continue to be for this lifetime.
How long does it take to become a pilot?
Lpmg
Shit, long..
You need a Bachelor's degree or greater as an outright qualification, which is obtainable via ROTC but can be any degree. So there's up to four years. Then about 10 weeks of officer training school, then after that another year or so in flight school. Then you are obliged to I think TEN years of service.
Alright well i guess ill check out cyber, and also ask for other technology related schools, although im not necessarily averse to working with my hands
Maintenance isn't horrific, if you really wanna go for it and do some neat stuff just avoid signing up for a general maintenance position, you'll probably get Crew Chief and frankly no one wants to be a crew chief. Ask about things like Ammo, Sheet Metal, Metals Tech, NDI, Avionics, etc, just dont get suckered into a general maintenance contract because you can and will get crew chief or parachute packer tier shit
^^ maintenance besides crew chief and age isnt that bad
