Aoe 1 is still the greatest strategy game of all time.

youtube.com/channel/UCZUT79WUUpZlZ-XMF7l4CFg

I suck ass, but I’ve been enjoying this guys stream

Yes.

it was shit the year it came out
AoE II and AoM are top shelf though

Watching T90 was what got me back into aoe

Aoe 1 released a new version.

there releasing a new version of aoe2 next month i think. redid everything but the mechanics as opposed to just zooming it out and calling it a day like last time

My fondest online multiplayer memories are from AoE2 back in the day. I think that was dialup, but I could be mistaken.

I remember, when I was a kid, I used to play the shit out of AoE II. It was one of my favorite games, it took up a good deal of my time, and it was al I could think about. A couple of years ago, I saw it on sale when I was browsing Steam, so I bought it (my original copy only worked on Macs so I couldn’t use it anymore). Idk why, but when I replayed it, it just wasn’t as fun as it used to be. It’s still pretty fun, but no where near as captivating as when I was a kid

Based user. I miss this game.

you should try playing it on voobly. easy to find games

I liked AoE 2 but prefered Rise of Nations as a kid because nukeslol

This, and C&C Generals.

Fucking a

Great game, I still play. Balanced enough to be fair but with enough civ divergence to be interesting. My biggest complaint is that the stock AI sucks. It's too hard for noobs and against decent players it does stupid shit like build a huge navy on maps that are 90% land, or not build a market until late Imp. in a team game.

Apparently there are third-party bots that are much better, but I haven't tried them yet

That's dope. God damn I miss the 90s

Same thing for everything. You lose that excitement. That vigor for the things that meant something to you

Wooo LoLo

my though is ive never really played a real game and dont know how to do anything but rush castles and build a wall around everything

Same. I played the game a ton when it was released. We used to have college LAN parties and it was a blast. T90s enthusiasm about the game brought back that hype I had for it.

Choke points homie.

DUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE!!!!!!!!!! I’ve “wasted” so many hours of my life on this game! 1&3 are alright, but 2 was/is the shit! Thanks user, you made a htxfag’s day.

kek

All games had terrible AI back then. They followed the same pattern and once you figured it out, it was too predictable and easy.

Command and Conquer Red Alert was the worst for that. Great game but you couldn't play against the computer it was too predictable.

AOE 2 The Age of Kings, Forever! I will never stop playing this game.

It's fine, but only against human players. In a game predating proper multiplayer support the lack of a decent single player experience is a big flaw. AoM imporved on this aspect but still suffers from crappy AI programming. even AoE2 has mediocre AI programming

Homeworld on the other hand is above godliness as a franchise

Fuck yea it is nigger

like I said a few posts up, Homeworld didn't suffer from such problems. Many games didn't, particularly non RTS games. Total Annihalation, Total War, Starcraft, Populous come to mind.
Turn based games had excellent AI programming around that time in particular.

9/10

Age of Empires and American Conquest were my childhood as my parents didn’t allow me to play 1st person games.

Cs/aoe/total annihilation and star craft were the only games I ever played

You're correct user. My buddy introduced me to it a couple years ago and it's the first PC game I've played intensely since TF2. Such a pleasurable classic.

I like Sorry. Maybe checkers

Yeah it's pretty good shit I gotta say. And AoM. Actually been jamming Empire Earth occasionally too. Just wish I had more time, after I finish uni and have more leisure time I just wanna hit cones and play games

Yep.
Crazy what that little engine can do.
