Did you try looking on google like any other rational person before asking random ppl on Yea Forums LOL
how old is he? the 18 years old is a general guide. any age above 16 should be fine. the main reason they aren't often given to children is worse reactions to side effects. mainly, suicidal thoughts.
i would hope the doctor with your son being under 18, prescribed a very low dose. watch for mood changes and never be afraid to call 911.
Google is horseshit, every website contradicts each other in some way, and im pretty sure if you're on Yea Forums you'd know something about depression
yep, hes 16, its 10mg anyway
It literally causes people to become more violent and cause mass murders the amount of school shooters who were taking prozac at the time they commited the act is shocking. Not to mention tests on animals such as shrimp causes them to commit suicide
Prozacs a shit drug. Read up on it a bit here (goodrx.com
Also don't forget that prozac was made in the 80s and since then much better drugs have been made like some SNRI's such as pristiq that work much much better. But retard doctors that did their uni degree back in the 80s don't bother to check up on newer better drugs
thanks, thats what i was thinking
also he clearly told the doctor he was having trouble sleeping and calming down, seems to be the last thing i would take if i were him
No problem its just ((( big pharma))) fucking with the population hope your son if hes real stays safe even though he probably isnt and its just sum 16 yrold fag
I reccomend you research more into SNRIs, although they can have more side effects they are much much more useful than those 30 year old shit drugs that were mind you, the first of their kind.
Search up Pristiq, Effexor, Savella etc etc. I was on a 50mg dose of Pristiq when I was 16. Worked really well with me! But I did have withdrawals that lasted about a week.
Though I was diagnosed with Depression + Anxiety. Not sure what your kid has
The kid forgive their mother for what she's done to them. They're just like her, emotional. And forgive their father from not protecting them from their mother.
No pills needed

Did it ever occur to you, that a doctor who spends 4 years in medical school and 3-7 years in residency, gets constantly tested on the most up to date scientific data, and has their license to practice medicine dependent on their decision making, miiiiight know more than whoever wrote the soundbite found in your google search?
Are you somehow under the impression that the google website is the correct, up-to-date authority, and that the prescribing doctor is somehow working off of inferior knowledge?
SSRIs are statistically extremely safe and effective drugs. You do not “need to be 18” to take them. Doctors need to go through a shitload of training to be allowed to prescribe drugs and they are very much aware of who can and cannot take them.
The age 18 is who the drug is “approved” for by the FDA. That doesn’t mean other people can’t take it. What it (mostly) means is that pharmaceutical companies aren’t allowed to advertise it to doctors or patients for the use of treating people under 18.
ok clearly this has turned into a prozac is bad circlejerk. its not that bad. like any drug, it has side effects. these vary from person to person. weight changes, mood change, energy level, sexual performance, and prescence of mind are the first things that come to mind. what this drug is doing is basically leveling out the serotonin in your brain. it tells the brain "hey dont get rid of the stuff, just hold it in there." the point is to create a more steady mood/state of mind for the patient. obviously this doesnt make them not depressed, but in conjunction with therapy, antidepressants can help pave a path to recovery. this is not a scam or a pharma zombie pill. this is real medicine setting the stage for the patient's underlying causes to be treated. the patient himself will be the one to notice side effects before most others, and the prescribing doctor should be able to answer any questions that may arise due to the side effects. don't take medical advice from Yea Forums. spend time reading the warnings that the manufacturer and fda put out. you can literally google "fda prozac" and find REAL scientifically backed statements on how this drug functions. ssris do work and you do not need to listen to these guys. this medicine IS approved for adolescents. you can read this on the fda label.
And where did you go to medical school? Oh wait...
10 mg is a very low dose.
Prozac works for anxiety disorders. Though it is a rather blunt instrument. Still better than benzodiazepines.
This, with caveats
.
My doc uses prozac as a baseline, he then observes for results, side effects and differential diagnosis before tailoring the dosage or medication to newer/stronger stuff. I referred my friends to him, so have multiple perspectives on how he does his work.
I took prozac for a year or two, it's mostly a blur. This is bad news bears, OP, and you probably don't need it. I was switched from prozac to paxil after it wasnt working. Tried to OD on it by taking all the pills. Lived, thankfully, realized SSRIs are literally suicide pills designed to kill you/make you kill yourself.
There's no such thing as a magic cure all for depression OP. I took SSRIs because i thought by taking them I'd feel better, the truth is, you need to make an effort yourself to better your life along with taking the drugs if you want to feel better. They don't really tell you this. There's no magic pill, OP, in the end you have to will your depression away, and still it'll never truly be gone forever.
Stay strong buddyboy, and take my advice and get the fuck off Yea Forums. Stay on Yea Forums sure, but Yea Forums and /r9k/ are bad places who will encourage the worst in you. Try other boards like /an/ or Yea Forums or literally anything else. Sure they're not super positive or anything but seriously, getting off Yea Forums and only visiting it occasionally is a very very good idea.
I have Panic disorder and they psych prescribed me Lexapro it worked really well for a like 9 months then just stopped and the panic atatcks came back. Im working on weening my way back onto it. SSRIs are the safest drugs out there with minimal side effects, and if you dont tolerate them well you can try a different one. I also take xanax only as needed for extreme panic attack episodes.
That must be why the American college of Psychiatry, who constantly reviews the most up-to-date information, newest research studies, and painstakingly reviews every single new development, currently recommends Prozac as a first-line drug.
Jeez, why bother going to residency and conducting painstaking research if a google soundbite knows better?
Fuck prozac. Helped me as a teen, but the suicidal thoughts were so bad. The withdrawals from stopping are hellish too. If he stops make sure to give him plenty of slack, he will feel fucking awful.
Like is good, but like year fuck that noise.
We were literally dismissing how OP should research other drugs before biting the bullet and going for whatever his doctor says. I'm not saying his doctor is wrong. Im just saying he should take precautions. I live in a rich neighbourhood and I have had "medical professionals" do and tell me shit that would get them fired in an instant. They don't give a shit about you, and there is nothing wring with looking at other peoples experiences.
Too say that taking a drug that alters brain chemistry while the brain is developing up until the age of 25 is incredibly stupid. Big pharma would have you believe that you need that shit but long term they end up doing more harm than good.
I found out about the suicidal side effects four years into my perscription from reading a research paper about how a bunch of drug trials had really stupid shit happen to the data to make it seem safer.
Fun Fact: In the prozac drug trials, subjects that commited suicide were not considered in the final tally of possible side effects or efficacy of the drug. They were simply purged from the counts, thus increasing the ratio of successfully treated patients.
My doctor was shocked and didn't believe me when I brought it up. I literally had to scroll through my phone, find the meta-analysis, and email it to them to look at on their computer becuase they were a fucking boomer. Switched to a dopamanergic drug after that anyways.

>Effexor
>suggesting effexor
>suggesting effexor for anyone under 25
>not knowing effexor faked test results to get FDA approval and people under 25 years old taking effexor are actually 5x more likely to kill themself
Not to mention effexor is a fucking nightmare to get off of. Look it up.
I am fifteen and have taken it for two years mostly just drowsyness
I've been quite happy with my ssri thus far, I take 75mg sertraline every day which is in the low end for this drug (max is like 200mg afaik). The worst side effect is my reduced sex drive, but hey, I'm a cave dwelling loser so in some way I guess its a blessing not to be sexually frustrated?
Best advice I can think of is make sure you give him time to adjust, some side effects will disappear after 1 or 2 weeks and you may not see any actual improvement until atleast 1 month after first taking the drug.
They're not magic pills that fix everything, but they nudge you in the right direction ever so slowly, goodluck to you and your son.
get the fuck off this website, no wonder fucking kids are offing themselves. you must be 18 to post here.
>effexor faked test
source?
>people under 25 years old taking effexor are actually 5x more likely to kill themself
people under 25 years old taking any anti depressant are actually 5x more likely to kill themself
It's almost like all drugs are bad.. user you have really made a breakthrough with this one
An yeah SNRIs are always harder to come off, but in my opinion and what i have seen, they work better
>he doesn't know that more than half of Yea Forums is under the age of 18
youre a literal child, fuck off. for your own good
have sex
whatever nigger enjoy suicide
SSRI's are generally not recommended for underaged patients. There are several reasons for this. Chief among them being the permanent damage to the natural release of seratonin. Any interference with this system before age ~25 can have negative results. G proteins, responsible for the transportation of serotonin are stored between presynaptic lipid rafts. The introduction of SSRI compounds replace these proteins and make it more difficult for natural reuptake in the long run. TL,DR: SSRI now, less natural happiness later (in underdeveloped patients).
WAG Pharmacist on duty. take it and see how you are doing and then ask your doctor if you can try Effexor.
my son has ptsd not full on depression, his manager says he actually genuinely happy at work and such
fuck, going to switch to a better doctor now
28 pills of lunesta (2mg), about 50 Xanax(.5mg), 50ish sonata(10mg), 90 lexapro(20mg). Is this enough to end it?
bump
i guess try it out. have a talk with him though and be genuine and tell him to talk about his issues with you if he's feeling down. i swear, you can go from fine to ready to die on SSRIs in a heartbeat, and most suicides are spur of the moment decisions. i wish you and your son the best OP
Very bad idea. It can make him depressed to the point of real suicide not just imagination, and fuck his neurotransmitter system.
I know of too many cases when youngsters hop on SSRI and kill themselves weeks after.
SSRI isn’t gonna pluck depression out of a brain, it amplifies depression, and makes the human docile, and eventually a piece of vegetable that’s unable to experience any emotion.
If you’re the parent, you’re part of the problem. Instead of taking your son to the shrink, read a couple of parenting books. Take him to therapy or somewhere where he can make friends and communicate.
Yeah because Yea Forums is a fucking fantastic source for unbiased and accurate information
>The stories and information posted here are artistic works of fiction and falsehood. Only a fool would take anything posted here as fact.
Yeah put a minor on re-uptake inhibitors as their brain grows, watch their life turn to mush. Good luck suing anyone over it.
Independent trials where people without depression or anxiety took Prozac were abandoned due to the high number of test subjects who quickly started to think about killing themselves in gruesome ways. It was reported in 1998 but buried.
People did okay before psych meds came along, stop being such a fucken customer getting farmed by corporations.
Yeaahh makes total seeense oh wait this is /b
So this is why the place is so autistic and full of genuine retards
Don't give anyone SSRIs, they mess people up
>This post violates a rule
>This user is underage
Ez
Everyone knows it, we just pretend like it doesn't exist
Just like we pretend that you're 18, right user?
