I dont really ask people shit on here but i dont know a better group of people to ask to be honest.

My sister got given a surface pro from her school. It is locked to her schools domain. Therefor, she gave it to me because she can no longer use it because she cant access the domain to unlock the computer anymore.

I obviously dont know the administrator word or password, only the tech department at the school she no longer attends knows this. Is there anyway to remove this computer from the domain?

Lowkey desperate seeing as I've just been given my dream computer and cant fucking personally use it.

Reset the BIOS/UEFI, uninstall Windows? Shouldn't be too fuckin hard.

Yeah, I know, I'm a fucking student that dont know a damn thing about computers. I just want something thats light and shit.

But obviously I dont want to pay near £800 for one.

This

This is gonna sound really stupid but how do you uninstall it? And how can you reinstall it after.

I know I sound like a fucking retard but i Havent got a clue what I'm doing and dont wanna fuck it up completely.

Take it to a professional if you have no clue, because Microsoft are fucking retards who decided to make their laptops unopenable without destroying them, literally worse than Apple, unless you know exactly what you're doing. Can't reset without opening the laptop.

>get into bios
>format drive
>reinstall windows
>???
>profit

Take it from an IT admin. Hold the Shift key when restarting the surface. Go into the BIOS/UEFI on that machine. Go download Windows 10 from Microsoft website and install via USB. Erase the old installation from the ssd, BAM. New surface.

Install any Linux distro over windows. You can install a cracked version of Windows afterwards if you really want to

You can get a real laptop for much less than 800, and real operating systems are free

This

If you want to be a true chad, install ArchLinux + DWM.

This is correct OP

Obviously delete system32 you noob

Will get rid of the domain and make your computer run super fast

What this user said. Second I.T. professional here. Hold shift, click restart and hold shift key until UEFI/BIOS asks you if you want to wipe/reset the PC. Remove/delete all files and settings, plug in the charger, and wait for Windows to reinstall itself.

This sounds great. If this works properly I owe you a lot sir!

Median can be installed from a usb drive, and has support for all the surface hardware. If you have never used linux, this or ubuntu would be a good first OS to learn on.

Wait, so I can delete windows without having to download a copy onto a flash drive. It will download itself?

I meant Debian

Use this user's advice to install Median to an external drive after Windows reinstall so you run Linux from that external drive within Windows. Buys you time for getting used to learning Linux without committing to a full, permanent OS switch.

No matter what, you should have an installation image ready to go.

wipe the OS. Start from scratch.

Yes. Hold shift key, restart, wait for the blue screen with two prompts. One will ask you if you want to reset this PC. Click yes. The next prompt will ask if you want to remove all files and settings, but warn that it'll take longer. You want that option.

This too. Always make a full OS boot drive using a USB in case the recovery partition of Windows (which you're using to reinstall Windows 10 without such a drive) ever gets deleted.

After doing this once, you will know what to do in the future. Never get locked out of a pc again

Linux live boot disk is god-tier

/b is being surprisingly helpful tonight.

Proprietary software and locked-down operating systems by over-reaching corporations dictating what you can and can't do without your own hardware is evil.

And here I am thinking op wanted to get nudes

>There Will be Blood
If the Bios is locked (you cant change settings because you need the password) Then at that point its a hardware issue. I've only ever done that is full desktops tho so i'm not sure if Surface Pro has it but there is a little node, or a piece of plastic that is connected to the board which contains the info for the administrator password. If you remove it and place it back then you have removed the password for good and can use it like a computer. But like I said idk if Surface has it.

You an do sooo much better OP

Fuck outta here.

OP here. Honestly held off posting this as i expected to be roasted to filth for not knowing a thing but I'm pleasantly surprised

Thanks guys

You're talking about the CMOS battery. Surface tablets are glued shut, so good fucking luck dismantling one without breaking it beyond repair.

Don't forget Intel ME, I'm switching my workstation PCs to either POWER9/POWER10 for high-end, and RISC-V for low-end. Gonna cost me a shit-load of money, but for open goodness it's great.

We have to stick together on some issues. We dont like being told what we cant do. And yeah. Linux is God-tier. Dont bother with windows, unless you absolutely have to.

Linux will never be anything but a hobbyist os.

Sure, man. Plus, this is one of the only threads on Yea Forums that isn't porn or attention-whoring. When it comes to freedom over the hardware we buy, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Pay it forward one day.

Just buy a new harddrive ffs or does this not have a removable one?

Hardware load-balancing and performance optimization is almost an art form. It'll never be perfect, so don't expect it to be. It's only finished when you're ready to abandon the process.

>removable HDD

Comments like this are proof that there truly such a thing as a stupid question.
