You can swing it something like 10 points, but it's mostly relationships and problem solving.

Buy one of those puzzle books out of the magazine section at Barnes and Noble with the different kinds of puzzles.

Figure out how to quickly do each one.

The logic puzzles where they give you a 2-axis grid and clues are the best for IQ increase but they all help from cryptographs to crosswords

To answer OP, no you cant really do much about your IQ. It's highly genetic. Anyone who says otherwise is a leftist.

You can never raise your IQ, you're pretty much stuck with what you got. You can of course get better at taking IQ tests to fool the test but it doesn't mean you're any smarter. There are plenty of ways to lower your IQ though, such as becoming an alcoholic or drug user.

As most have said youre pretty much stuck. IQ tests, at least the real ones that are validated test your brain's plasticity and what I would call "core functions". Some of these are slightly improvable with practice. As others have mentioned reading, but I personally believe the strongest predictor working memory and others have identified it as well which is good because it is comparatively easy to increase. I have a great working memory and score high on IQ tests and I think that's mostly why. I do math in my head without a pen and paper... the kind that requires moving numbers around or multiple steps.

IQ tests contain questions that are basically trivia. And, by definition, trivia is useless information cluttering up your memory. One person's trivia might be someone else's vital information. So, IQ tests can be legitimately declared arbitrary. Subjective.

That said, if you take time in your day to learn new things, improve on the knowledge you have, and most importantly, learn how to learn better, you will be a smarter person. Challenge your own beliefs by learning. People who do these things are the successful ones in life.
