The problem is still, like you said, that they either dont fit or dont absorb enough. I recently have tried some abena pullup and a northshore equivalent, and they actually worked quite well. The only complaints I have is that on at least one of them, the waterproof backing doesn't go all the way up the back (found that out the hard way) and the other thing is that the elastic is the "granny panty" style, rather than the style used in goodnites or other bedwetting pullups. But the fit was great, and the absorbancy was great. (I have thick legs, so regular goodnites dont quite fit me. working on losing weight, and then it might be an option. Its right on the border right now though)

it depends a lot on the person honestly. There does not seem to be a overwhelming consensus on what causes this yet. A lot attribute it to early potty training, late potty training, or bedwetting at a later age. A much smaller subset attribute it to some form of trauma or another. Another theory/experience is that someone was exposed to diapers around the time they were starting puberty (usually from them wetting the bed still, but I think I have heard stories where they had a sibling or even a friend as well who needed them) and somewhere a wire got crossed and now their brain associates diapers with this new world/concept of sexuality. It is not at all rare however, for someone to have absolutely no clue what led to it, as they didn't experience any of the common threads.
Personally, I was a late potty trainer (I was developmentally delayed in pretty much every area) but I dont have any serious memory of that era. I remember a few things that might have been from either just before potty training, during, or just after, but I dont get the feeling that this is where this came from. I was also a bedwetter until I was around 5, I think I had pretty much stopped by 6 though. As for trauma, I didn't have anything like the stories you sometimes hear, I wasn't abused or anything, but I have had to deal with things growing up that most kids would not. I remember as a little kid having a fascination with diapers, but it obviously wasnt sexual at that point. As I got older (probably around 9 ish) that fascination had started to fade, but then when I was 11 I saw an ad for pullups in a magazine and that fascination kind of resurfaced. Around 13 or 14 is when I started puberty (also pretty late) and that fascination sort of evolved into a sexual thing before I even knew what that was.
TLDR: We dont really know, and it might be for totally unrelated reasons for different people, ie. same effect but very different causes.
