Two reasons. Firstly, because they don't want to. Work is hard. Second, women are more social and less logical, and STEM fields require a rigor most women aren't comfortable with. You can argue with customers and clients that they shouldn't be upset about an outcome and rephrase the narrative. You can't argue with a collapsing bridge that it should stay up to avoid hurting people's feelings, you have to actually get the right answer.
