It certainly helps with longevity. You can understand and appreciate a Tool album initially. It takes time and it's evident with their previous albums too based on initial critic reviews. Hell even Lateralus was shit on by critics when it first came out.

The instrumentation was well put together guess, but not life changing or moving in any real direction and the vocals were all completely weak and unimportant overall
