Those who idolize the 90s seem to forget that the decades of depression to follow were the consequence of the 90s. It would be like the societal equivalent of taking out a million dollar loan and having a week of partying and dicking around, then 10 years later when you're crippled with debt, looking back and concluding that life was so much better when you were taking out million dollar loans. The hedonistic free-for-all lead to the erosion of all social context, meaning subsequent generations inhereted no experience or knowlegde accumulated by previous generations up to that point, and thus needed to dedicate their lives to working out everything the previous generations already knew, instead of just starting from there and dedicating their efforts to actually advancing us on a substantive level. Now change for the sake of change ensures that every generation is trapped in this cycle, having to learn the new ways in which what is timeless is dressed up as what is outdated, and thus despite society being a chaotic mess on the superficial level, it is the most stagnant it has ever been on any level of substance.

This thread is dying. Just like our greatest and most fun memories.
