I own a Remington 870 (pump action shotgun). It's underneath the bed I'm currently laying on.

The H&K VP9 I really like is 800 bucks after tax; any Glock or alternative would require upgrades that would put it maybe a bit lower than that, but in the same range.

If I'm going hunting, I have plenty of friends with rifles, from .270 up to .300 Win Mag, whatever would be necessary.

The big one I really want is an AR-15, but even with the market at a big low right now, a quality build will still run you $1500 after optics. You can get away with a shitty stamped lower, a cheap stock, bargain bin furniture, etc. But a quality upper, bolt carrier group, trigger group are super necessary. And the barrel is the most important part of any rifle. Cold hammer forged. Chrome lined. Thicker construction to tolerate heat from a high ROF; that will run you 5-600 bucks.

But anyway, yeah. Mostly just a matter of $.
