How the fuck do people study for long periods of time everyday? How do you study without getting tired, or studying when you are tired? I feel like I haven't learned shit or done anything and I'm already tired. Do I just need to sleep more?
How the fuck do people study for long periods of time everyday? How do you study without getting tired...
Forgot to mention I'm in college
You're not sleeping enough and/or you're not that into what you're studying
Set goals i would study 3 hours at a time take 1 hour off then repeat but i only did math so i guess if you do multiple subjects it is s pain
Trying to figure it out myself too, most likely I have attention problems, procrastination is my life now
Energy drinks. I never used them but i had to start about a week ago. My life was just too much without that chemical assistance
Why are u forcing yourself to do something u obviously don't want to do?
Because if you don't, you won't meet your deadlines. America sucks like that
I'm starting to think it's this. I'm thinking of trying to sleep at least 10 hours tonight so hopefully I'm feeling better tomorrow
That's what I'm trying to do as well, study 2 hours 1 hour off but I'm still not able to achieve much.
I'd rather not go that route. I already drink a lot of coffee as it is
Because I don't want to fail my classes? I could always switch majors to something easier but I don't want to fuck myself over and waste time by not getting a job afterwards
It's not deadlines that's the problem. It's just trying to study in general and master each section. I'm taking 3 math classes and one CS class this semester. What makes it worse is that there is basically no tutoring at my school and office hours are really limited
You're obviously doing a degree that isn't interesting, change majors now before you end up in a career that makes you want to hero
I also can't really learn well when tired. I use coffee when I need to study but limit yourself to like one cup a day so you don't get too desensitized to it. Also pay attention in class, stay awake by actively taking notes, it makes studying later easier. It also helps if your interested in the topic you're learning.
Try a Bang or C4 just once. They're not evil, just dangerous in really high quantities. Coffee sucks because it's not enough caffeine for you to really perk up fast
Then pay for a private tutor or are you a poorfag going to college on the governments dime?
Hey me too! CIS for Networking and some other stupid fuckin shit i don't need but had to take anyway!
Bang is fucking disgusting, all.You can taste is the nasty artificial sweeteners. Bang is a shit tier energy drink.
Get a monster pipeline pinch or the monster loco mango or a rockstar strawberry cream.
Well I'm doing CS and I do enjoy it. But this semester it's really math heavy. It makes me realize I definitely do not enjoy math as much as I thought I did. Proofs are especially annoying and bore the fuck out of me.
I drink like 3-4 cups of coffee to start my day usually. But yeah, the courses I'm taking aren't all that exciting if I'm being honest
have you had C4? Super tasty, it's like hypercaffeinated Fanta or maybe Sunkist. It's marketed toward bodybuilders but it's got some caffeine which is all i care about, kek
Poorfag fo sho, parents pay for it. I'm at community now hence the lack of tutors.
Nice, hiw tough is it? I've thought about switching to info tech since it looks WAY easier but I feel like it really limits you job wise.
I've never heard of it. I'll look into it.
C4 isn't available in PNW
it's not don't fucking do it. First week and i'm learning how to speak in binary and hexadecimal. MANUALLY
sum good ganja boi
pnw? the fuck country is that m8?
You're sleeping too much. Or maybe you have chronic fatigue syndrome or whatever it's called.
>Bang is fucking disgusting. You can taste the artificial sweeteners.
>Recommends Monster
what's your fave?
I remember I had to do that in my assembly class, most pointless bullshit ever. That whole class in general was retarded.
I seriously doubt I'm sleeping too much. If anything I could use more sleep.
Name a thing that one want to do and is productive and soundly paid at the same time
Protip: It doesn't exist. No one pay you for having fun.
What math courses did you take, user?
Software architect here. I ask job candidates a problem that requires they know how hex works and binary is useful too.
Study hard, because I'm tired of people that graduate in CS and don't know what a fucking byte looks like.
oh god oh fuck i need to read more then. Any tips?
I majored in math but I also fucking hate math proofs. It'll make a huge difference on your reasoning skills in the future though so just slog through. It's also pretty important for CS.
Math is very mentally draining so take a lot more breaks. Most people really aren't capable of being productive when studying math for hours on end. You end up wasting the time if you try to force it too much. Study for 45 minutes and break for 10. If you feel like you're not making progress then take a break and mull over whatever you're stuck on. Honestly, most of the time I was stuck on a proof the answer would come to me when I took a break to have a cigarette. And it can be helpful to have a study ritual, get some snacks and some drinks to reward yourself for doing the studying. Instrumental music would help me concentrate when I studied as well.
Also, it can help to form a study group with people from your class. It can be faster to have somebody explain something and if you're the smartest one in the group then you reinforce and refine what you know through teaching others.
I'm a data scientist and I actually like my work and make good money so suck my dick
>drinks
water or energy. No in between, and get salty shit like beef jerky or popcorn
newfag freshman in CS, how the fuck do i keep track of hexidecimal addition? Any help would be awesome, still trying to get it
Calm down. How old are you?
What is your major exactly? Do you want to code or what?
Also feel free to ama if you want. Been in this industry for 20 years.
I took that class a year ago and if you were to ask me that out of the blue, I would legit walk right the fuck out of that interview. Why would I need to randomly know how to do a fucking hex calculation? Now if you mean how it works in general, like a verbal explanation that's more reasonable.
>I'm riding the meme and no one can stop me
You can go on with your soon-to-be-crammed work field.
Not a hex calculation, that's what calculators are for. But you should be comfortable using it in a problem.
oh my god. the people you find here. 18 in CS class for the first time, CIS for networking. Still really new at it, i'm learning about hex and base conversion now.
Not coding much rn but i'm sure that's coming
>I majored in math but I also fucking hate math proofs. It'll make a huge difference on your reasoning skills in the future though so just slog through. It's also pretty important for CS
Any advice for proofs? I'm taking discrete math and linear algebra and I cannot stand doing proofs. Everytime I read one I have no idea what to do or how to prove it. And yeah, math in general wears me out mentally. Especially if I can't figure it out on my own. Feels like I'm wasting way too much time and not getting enough problems done when that happens.
Could you maybe give an example of what you mean? As in something involving assembly or a general programming problem?
I meant that literally, not the colloquial booze version. Thanks for pointing that out though. I didn't even think about that interpretation when I wrote it. I was more imagining things like tea and hot chocolate for the purpose of developing a positive association with studying
It's harder to get in than stay in faggot
nothin better than a chungloid caffeine high. never had the shit in my life, all those wasted years. Just started using and it's great
You must be depressed or going through shit speaking from experience when shit is going on in my head and life its impossible to study these are the things thst help me = workout gym, cardio , go for walks to reflect tslk to yourself, have me time i play piano, then i can study just do 1 thing before from my list before you study dont reply with a excuse if you do then you are a lost cause
ah fuck you really booled wit da trips
I'm sensing rage on you, I understand that happens when you're confused even if you're trying to convince yourself that you're not.
Maybe it is that hype of "data science" that imprison the people who fall for it.
videos might help a lot, I usually don't study but when I do I watch videos and i usually get an A
I give a problem that can be solved on a white board in about an hour by someone competent.
It has a problem solving part and then a coding part but since it is whiteboard coding, it's less strict.
It's pretty crazy going from 30 calculus problems done in a few hours to 10s of hours just trying to write 5 proofs.
Have you studied actual proof writing methods? Like proof by contradiction and mathematical induction? That helps a lot. After that, you just take down the premise and the conclusion and then pull the rest of it out of your ass. No joke. There's no algorithmic process for solving math proofs.
Stare at the problem, look through the related chapters and see what can be used with what's given. Then pull some other random math facts straight out of your asshole to tie it all together. Also make sure to break the premise into all possible cases, i.e., if it's absolute value then you need to prove for greater than the 0, less than, and exactly 0.
Make sure to start early and stop studying if you've been stuck for too long. Sometimes you just need to switch gears for a while before coming back because you'll end up with something like tunnel vision. You get burnt out and just keep trying the same thing. Doing something else for a while will let you come back to it with a fresh set of eyes.
And the coding can be in whatever language they want as long as it mostly resembles the language in question.
Honestly I just use a calculator or convert back to base 10 for the addition. Binary is fine by hand but it's too annoying to have to count out the extra number/letters with hex.
okay. i just need to know the process for a test. Rote memorization then. fuck
No rage here. Just enjoying insulting strangers on the internet.
I honestly think most people don't really get what the day-to-day is like for a data scientist. I spend a lot of my time doing more software engineering related work but I also do data analysis and machine learning stuff. I like the variety.
A lot of data scientists just get stuck running regressions all day every day. Boring as shit.
Others have a weak CS background so it can be really hard to adapt to the work. They often have to work with the engineers and that lack of knowledge can really hurt.
How can they overcome that knowledge gap? Go back to school?
That's not so bad then. Sounds pretty reasonable.
Thanks for the advice user, I'll definitely try this.
Adderall. I'm sure someone already suggested it.
It's not that hard. Same process as base 10. A+A=10+4=14, i.e., carry the 1 subtract 16
Another way to look at it is A+A is 10+10 in decimal. So 20 in decimal which is 16+4. The sixteen is carried over to the next decimal place as a 1 and you have 4 left for that digit
They haven't since that shit is for fags
They could go to school but they can also self teach. It's best to have just taken a bunch of CS in school as well. I've noticed that programming is really hit or miss with people. They either get it or they never will.
It's vastly different than pure math so it's best to know what you're getting into, lest you discover you hate half of your field. The programming in math related degrees is mostly really high level languages so you don't really pick up the necessary software skills. Big data requires a lot of algorithm optimization which requires one to know how to do algorithm analysis and you won't get much of that using R libraries.
That said, math majors usually make really good programmers. Both fields require strong logic skills and breaking things into discrete logical steps.
You can probably just buy an intro to java or python programming book and dive into that.
