The truth is the required model would take longer to correctly assemble than years of collected data. A pure scientist's response to this request is "I'll call you back in a hundred years when my team is done."

That doesn't make global warming not real and that's obviously too long to wait to take action, but the correct action to take is not to do the geopolitical equivalent of cut ourselves and listen to Tool. The whole world has to be in on this one or it doesn't work, this is because of why people want to pollute in the first place; it makes money. I'm mildly irritated with these children's cartoons that show evil industrialists as literally interested in polluting in and of itself, though I get showing a saturday morning cartoon villain going "Fuck yeah I'm gonna get so richhhh famalam" and "Fuck yeah my shareholders are gonna be so impressed dude" isn't very entertaining. Pollution itself is a risk taken to make money.

That in hand China's plan for this shit is to get in early and be on top of it, Belt & Road is a scheme to buy all the carbon credits based on the pretty damn rational assumption that "cap & trade" is going to be the way forward internationally. If anyone's going to be cashing in on polluting China wants to be the one doing it, largely because it's already set up perfectly to do that and that's how it's made it's money....and provided us with whatever we want at absurdly cheap prices; the earth was paying for that shit. We can't just let them keep being Dr.Robotnik and all current climate activism is just pure guilt trips on the west with like no suggestions for a viable political and economic way forward.
