It's really easy when you factor in they were Muslim. This one fact alone combined with the Jihad by immigration agenda they have would make it incredibly easy to hi score them all. Ingroup outgroup mentality.
You have to see the group of individuals as less than human. A statistic, and more than that a problem. They're not people like you and I; they're one of them. Then, you talk in an echo chamber community until your desensitized stereotyped view becomes more and more radical, and the idea of killing them for a cause becomes noble.
Killers like this don't see their victims as pitiable. They've generalized who they are to the point where killing becomes more of a statement than a loss of innocent life. That's why these things usually come with a manifesto.
