cult and average niche bands, not god-tier
Wow...
Not even joking. This album was tits 20 years ago. Along came a band that had black metal interests and made that sort of music accessible to a mainstream audience. They're not black metal by any measure. They're not really death metal. Idek know what to call early Slipknot. They were brutal fucking metal and it was a breath of fresh air in a time where metal was taking a backseat to pop and nu-metal in the mainstream. They've obviously stood the test of time since they still tour and release new albums. Stopped listening to them after Iowa. But man, that first album.... just great fucking metal, dude. It's hard & heavy, they talk about fucked up experiences that are pretty relatable. Just good all 'round.
Roast me all you want, but at least express your opinion why you hate that album.
classic everlasting abyssal black death metal
truly god-tier performances and formula
that album is mostly filler leading in and out of one maybe two good songs. it is not a good album at all but contains like one god-tier song GTFO
That's cool, and I appreciate the honesty of your opinion. Which is your "god tier" pick on the album? I'm probably a lot older than you. I was 19 when that shit came out, so it was a different time and we had a lot less free access to music back in prehistoric times
not as good as exercises in futility, but still more mgla, which is what we all want, right?
wait and bleed. the rest is all the same thing for 20 minutes
Wait and Bleed is pretty awesome. I'm a big fan of Eyelss too because I've dealt with a lot of crazy homeless people. A lot of tracks really "did it" for me back then: (sic), Surfacing, Only One, and Eeyore were pretty awesome, and I still enjoy them 20 years later. Into "real" metal too, man. But I just really like Slipknot's first album.
yeah, none of that is bad, it’s just soulless musically. I’d rather listen to more instrumentally driven metal. not just scary on purpose slammers
I recommend the track "Transform All Sufferings Into Plagues"
I get you, dude. What are you into? Usually need a little more "meat & potatoes" in music myself. Just thought I'd share an album I enjoyed that a lot of people could find some kind of communal interest in.
Big fan of Mastodon, Candiria (used to hang with those fuckers back in the day), Mike Patton stuff for far less brutal metal, then more "rockish" metal like Motorhead, Clutch, The Sword, so on.
Check out the track "Skyward Gaze, Earthward Touch"
I’m mostly into extreme metal, and black metal. I really like mr. bungle but faith no more always seemed crazy old to me. Mastodon of course is genius. Can you appreciate Cannibal Corpse?
This music is really bad and the reason you like it is that you are stupid
Nekrogoblikon good song bears
no the music is really good and the reason you don’t like it is that you are stupid
Clearly this.
now that is some quality funeral doom metal
>Can you appreciate Cannibal Corpse
Dude, Hammer Smashed Face is one of my favorite songs. And the jewtube G sharp version is fucking hilarious. CC has always been a go-to "extreme metal" band for me. Do you know about Candiria? Kinda glossed that over. They're pretty hard-hardcore mixed with jazz and hip hop. Really great NYC band. Their older shit before the bus accident was way better.
You like Gorgoroth and Behemoth?
FNM was more pop-rock. There's nothing wrong with that as long as you accept it for what it is and have no further expectations. Angel Dust was their only real metal album, and it's pretty fucking awesome. A lot of great songs about depression, suicidal thoughts, social anxiety, loneliness, good negative stuff IMO. King For A Day is a perfect pop-rock album, but it's straight up literal pop-rock. And their last album (because we don't count the new shit as real FNM) was pretty okay. More on the pop side and a little more soulless.
What else are you into aside from brutal metal?
Mikey D?
Yeah
It was definitely a nice kick in the face in '99 in between all the nu-metal shit, but the back half of the album is seriously lacking. Can't deny their live shows though. Those are insane.
This album is kinda all over the place, but in the best way. If The Mars Volta were metal it would be this album. Make one classic and call it quits.
well ween of course, and primus all things psychedelic. Gorgoroth and Behemoth are very hit or miss, and mainstream. They have some good stuff. I’m listening to candiria, real organic in your face stuff.
my brother each album is incredible they have so many at this point
Fun album and that energy bleeds through the speakers.
Not scared to admit I enjoyed the album, my main problem with Slipknot was they are basically a mainstream/watered down death metal band with 4 or 5 extra members. This is particularly obvious live as they only ALL perform at a few points, usually its just 5 of them playing and the rest running about hitting each other and acting stupid.
That said, the points they were all performing, it was pretty good.
Anyway. heres some good metal.
best tech death album of all time
god-tier doom metal. both are best in it’s genre classics

chill, everyone knows that album is great
>my main problem with Slipknot was they are basically a mainstream/watered down death metal band with 4 or 5 extra members
Anyone who would deny this has never listened to real metal. But for a mainstream watered down version they were pretty alright. Saw them at Ozzfest 99 and got mud in my lungs from the dirt pit second stage @ PNC in Holmdel, NJ. Good times.
Listening to your suggestion now, homie
YES.
"Monsters live behind my eyes, I let them out and people die"
A little more on the hardcore spectrum, but The Armed are the tits.
Still hoping for that next album ;-;
>Listening to your suggestion now, homie
Strongly recommend the video for "Leviathan".
>But for a mainstream watered down version they were pretty alright.
I like them. Don't get me wrong, but I'm near 100% certain without the schtick they would never have raised themselves above several similar bands of the same era.
it’s apparently coming some day. necrophagist are masters of tech death
youtube.com
Video was cool cuz hot goth girl. Not really my type of metal though. But didn't dislike anything about it.
They kind of reminded me of Devin Townsend's stuff minus the self-deprecating humor and hardcore math.
3:02 blast beats were my favorite part. And the hot goth girl
Are you into rock at all?
youtube.com
All Them Witches. They're new-ish to me even though they've been around for a while.
not him but I love all them witches. they make top-notch real awesome rock music
If youre into extreme metal you best be listening to these dudes
Any of you niggaz wanna try something that ain't black or cannibal corpse, I present you Sodom
sodom is pretty basic it hasn’t aged well, m-16 is way better
No shit.
Omnium Gatherum
Insomnium
Raintime
Eyes Wide Open
Imperanon
Soilwork
Scar Symmetry
and then every album following it was a fucking dumpsterfire. i don't know how a band could stray so far away from their own original song after just one album.
Oh I agree but the same can be said about all old thrash metal
>They kind of reminded me of Devin Townsend's stuff minus the self-deprecating humor and hardcore math.
Hmm, kinda get what you mean, took me a minute cos I was first thinking of Strapping Young Lad then Ziltoid, lol.
>All Them Witches.
Will check them out more, had them recommended by a few folk, that song's ok.
Have you listened to any Pallbearer?
youtube.com
>it’s apparently coming some day. necrophagist are masters of tech death
Fingers crossed, I have the Ibanez Xiphos that was basically Suicmez's sig model.
basically. I think Slayer is timeless.
They call that "buying in" instead of "selling out" nowadays. You get a producer who makes your sound as marketable as possible and you make as much money as you can touring and selling merch. Which isn't really all that much. Then you have to deal with songwriting rights and bullshit like that for extra pay. Once a band gets to the level of Slipknot they're not a band anymore but a business. It's sad, but it happens all the time and managers/producers fully encourage if not softly enforce it.
what is all this melodic zoomer shit
this was pretty decent, from a pretty decent band. nothing special, just great production
Listening to
Everything Is Fire right now. Gonna check out Pallbearer after this long as brutal song
Slayer's the tits but given the choice between slayer and sodom I'd pick sodom
Nothing like Iron Maiden for me
slayer have like 4 or 5 god-tier albums
absolute fucking banger when it came out
>
>>it’s apparently coming some day. necrophagist are masters of tech death

pretty average death metal, but i admire their dedication.
one of the only examples of decent slam
Arghoslent - Hornets Of The Pogrom
This album is untouchable to me.
Vaguely know these guys, and a few of the lads from Scordatura and Cerebral Bore, some other cracking Scottish metal bands.
Check out Co Exist and Man Must Die as well.
love this blend of fast well structured heavy/black metal, very noble riffage throughout
i smoked so much fucking meth to this album.

Fight me irl fagot
My favorite band . This is arguably their best album . But anything by these guys is awesome
They have a new album coming out
based on the first song release I'm pretty hype for it. Cattle Decap has a new one in November as well
That is badass . If only crytopsy would come back with lord worm then it would be a hell of a year kek
Infant Annihilator.
