A whole buncha reasons. Personally, i'm all for it as long as there is public oversight. Vut we need to reduce the world population by half easy.

By no coolant you're referring to passively cooled reactors. They fucking suck. You'd need WAY more of them to produce what a cooled reactor can produce, and while they may be "safer" in theory, almost every meltdown has been caused by human error, so increasing the amount of reactors increases the chance for that to happen.
The last major 'man caused' meltdown was Chernobyl in 1986. The next was caused by nature, the Fukishima meltdown in 2011. With the amount of reactors out there, that is a crazy good track record.
Most meltdowns were caused in the late '50s and early '60s before anyone knew what the fuck they were doing.
Food for thoughL Every submarine and aircraft carrier in the US fleet is nuclear powered. That's 82 boats. There hasn't been any problems with them so far. These are MOBILE COMPACT REACTORS. If we don't fuck those up, then the chances of us fucking up stationary reactors is even smaller.
