Finally passed my Autocad certification test. Only took 3 tries and $400. Got a score of 700 out of 1000. AMA about the test so you know what to expect.

Can you actually get a job with this?

I just got fired after 8 years as a drafter! You can have my job.

Do employers actually care about a certificate? I took a 2 credit Autocad/C++ course freshman year and that was good enough.

I got hired out of community college and never finished any sort of certificate. I think it's a bonus but definitely not required.

Its actually in high demand right now. Many of the older "engineers" are retiring anf leaving a job market void behind. I got sucked into it by accident. Yes BY ACCIDENT. I didnt have a bachelors or finished college and just made 3D printed shit for fun.
Expect a salary of between $45k-75k starting year.

how long do you have to study to pass that certificate test

They really don't give two shits about your education, only that you know how to use the program. Or learn watching youtube videos. No certificates required.

true, $400 is literally 1000x cheaper than it cost me.

3 days to 1 week. You don't need to study, just know how to use the program. The test is open form, meaning you use the program, and the question ask
>make a box this big
>put a polygon in the middle
>whats the distance between point a of box and point b of polygon.

Technically, the test is $200 with a free retake. I failed twice and had to buy another retake. If you pass the forst time, its only $200.

oh i could do that. then i can get a job, eh?

I would say watch a bunch of youtube videos first. Then get the job. Certification test can be done later. I been working with autocaf LT version for a year at my company before I went and took the test.
The certification isn't needed to get a job, the experience is what gets you hired, even if its just a .5 credt semester from college as a mandatory ellective.

these "engineers" can be tech degree guys who work they way up over 30 years. You can usually fake your way up one level of education. Like Engineering Technology to a full Engineering degree. Associates to a Eng. Tech. degree, and so on.

thanks man i'll keep that in mind

Do you fap to traps?

Very true. Since I'm just starting out after a year of doing this with almost zero experience, I'll slowly work my way up the education ladder while faking the it til I make it.
Hell, even Arby's was trying to hire me at one point to design kitchens.

What was covered in the test, user? What are the core ideas and concepts that must be absorbed in order to pass the test?

Only yhe extrmely feminine looking ones like sneaky.

Any prep courses will give you the general idea of the topics covered.
But the main things are how to make arrays, how to use annotative dimensions, use mirror command, use move command, use block editor command, use hatch command. Simple shit.

Learn your ISO standards + dimensioning and tolerencing and you'll be golden. Though, I learned them on the job, I can't imagine trying to memorize the standards without any practical examples.

How did you get fired? Looking at porn while on the job?

Kudos, user.

two of the questions threw me off.
1 was about putting a box together in Iso metric view, or 3D view, and find the distance in 3D between 2 points on the box.
2nd one was avout using a dwt template and changing the "units" and making a box with civil engineering angles. I skipped that question as I didnt know shit about that.
