Reddit and Yea Forums both suck, just in different ways.
A long time ago when the internet was new, there were hundreds of specific forums. Reddit sucks because:
> Everyone can use it (there's no closed registration / knowledge test needed to get in like some older forums).
> The upvote system ruins conversations.
Look up Solomon Asch's conformity studies. People will be desire to be part of the in-group, so upvoting / downvoting completely changes people's view of the topic (whereas other forums people just argue and you decide based on the merits of the argument). There have been multiple times when I have read the "top comment" with overwhelming upvotes that is objectively wrong about some kind of technical thing, but it doesn't matter because a lot of people agreed with it. The opposite is true where comments that are downvoted so badly are invisible.
