What is the meaning of life?

What motorways are the worst to drive on?

Exposed windy ones pecan be sketchy. The northern part of the M6 is bad. Also randomly busy ones. If you know it’s going to be slow that’s sort of okay because you can factor in the delay but some places just develop jams for no apparent reason at weird times of day. The M25 is a cunt.

Today the second Severn crossing was closed (because a lorry driver died in a crash) and the knock-on effects were massive for miles around.

At night there are loads of roadworks closures on the motorway which most drivers will probably never see but at night is when lots of lorry drivers are trunking and it’s a pain in the arse to have to come off the motorway onto slower a-roads with roundabouts and traffic lights rather than just staying on the speed limiter on the motorway.

Thank you for enduring such a shitty job OP.

I've been a trucker for about a year and a half in Italy, felt like a fucking slave.

They are called trucks you faggot

Driving on the wrong side of the road will do that to a TRUCK.

My current daily route takes me some of the most picturesque scenery in the UK. I’m enjoying every day.

/thread

What is the weight limit for non-heavy haul trucks there? We can’t go over 45000 lbs without a special permit.

44 tonnes gross vehicle weight before you have to start having extra permits. That’s 97000lbs.

Local dude was fapping while driving on the highway. For unknown reasons he crashed his lorry, blocking the highway both ways and literally cutting in half our beloved country. Police found out his phone, still showing some straight porn pic, and that was enough to have him jailed with serious charges about dangerous driving.

Serious lorry drivers only use CB. Do you love CB comms?

>CB comms

wtf, googled it until finding out it definitely aint porn

Hardly anyone in the UK uses CB radio. It was a thing in the 70’s and early 80’s but not any more. Maybe the odd old dude still does.

As a lorry driver you will be treated more harshly by the courts if you drive carelessly or dangerously because you ought to know better and the consequences of an incident involving a heavy vehicle can be so much worse. I’m okay with this because I take my responsibility behind the wheel seriously.

What kind of engine and transmission is in your truck and if standard how many speeds

Attached: DSCN0085.jpg (3264x2448, 1.89M)

I get that you guys drive your own cruise speed, but why are you overtaking each other with such a little difference in speed? Also, what are things you would want a car driver to understand about truck driving?

Fucking M20 at the moment. It's the UK's bottleneck towards Europe. Plus not only is it 75% 50mph with ASC cameras every fucking mile, it's being converted to a 'smart motorway' (i.e. no fucking hard shoulder) and a variable speed limit, but a massive section of london-bound stretch has been cut off to 2 lanes FOR NO FUCKING REASON apart from the knock-on effects of a no-deal brexit, and as soon as the daily accident occurs, kent is fucked

Stobart & Swain trucks still have them

I drive several different vehicles.

Some 12 tonners with a 6.9 litre straight six turbodiesel and a 6 speed automated box, some 6 speed manuals, an 18 tonner with a 10 litre straight six and 9 speed automated box, a 12.9 litre straight six turbodiesel artic tractor unit with a 12 speed automated box.

Almost all modern trucks have automated boxes. They’re not like car automatic transmissions with a torque converter, they’re manual gearboxes with automated solenoid or air shifters. You can use them in full auto mode or semi-auto.

British lorries are limited to 56mph/90kmh max, though some are limited to 52mph/85kmh. You can build up a bit more speed downhill but if you exceed the limiter for more than 30 seconds at a time the tachograph registers an overspeed which the DVSA (Driver And Vehicle Standards Agency) can see if they stop you to check your tacho.

because every truck driver takes to the limiter & hits the CC, but not every truck is calibrated identically. The difference can be +/- 0.5mph

The M6 is closed J1&2 overnight for the same reason, which is a massive pain.

Only ever had that once, coming off the M25 on the Swanley intechange and barelling it down the M20 past Brands Hatch. 'What's the funny flashing light?'

worthwhile life or pile of shit ?

passed class 2 few weeks ago waiting to start on class 1 training next week .....

OP is gonna be laid off soon.

The FTA bullshit is rally starting to weigh it down, plus there's the ever-present risk of getting pulled by VOSA and getting fined £10,000 for somwthing you didn;t realise you had to do that week.

If I’m doing 90kmh and the other guy is doing 88kmh I have to overtake. If Ikm driving for three hours those 6kms really matter. Sometimes I’m faster downhill and the other guy is faster uphill so for both of us to proceed at the max possible speed we’ll keep overtaking each other.

I wish car drivers wouldn’t cut in front of me. I’m leaving myself braking distance for a good reason. I also wish they wouldn’t drive at 54mph then speed up to 60mph when I try to overtake, only to drop back to 54mph again when I can’t get past and have to drop in behind them again. Twats.

some kind of cunt

Why do you always sit right up the back of slower cars like a fuckwit with no account for safety.

recent passer here

looks like ive a job lined up at an airport haulling fuel paying serious . I also live on the A5 not far from birmingham so in in the epicentre of work when i start that is

We have all the usual hermes , ups , tnt dhl around or there a fuckton of other so eurocar parts and cere etc ...... whos the fuckers to salute ? If the fuel driving fails to appear whos the company you would aim at if you were me ?

food , parcels or ?

All trucks/lorries should be banned from long distance driving and if the do have to be used, have their own motorways. Trains were always the safer direction and we have the auto industry to blame for their demise

What rank r u on world of trucks?

Am I fuck. I haven’t seen a self driving truck which could cope with Welsh A and B roads yet.

not happening any time soon in the uk

ex test driver here , did not end for prodrive etc etc on nissans etc

Trucking driving hauling stock is the same gig. Drive from one place to the other, unload, drive back, or to another depot, load up, drive back.

For a challenge, do what I do

Why do you call it a 'lorry' like a 3 year old.

what is a lorry?

Ok. And you're happy for a 75% hike in your road tax to pay for it?

yes mate

passer again here

Worked at MIRA and it cant cope with the black spots such as J11 M42 , signage 100% but mainly it cant go around an island as they are all different and it looses its shit when the curb goes away .........

You’ll be lucky if you get to drive a tanker without lots of experience.

Get a year or two experience with the companies you’ve mentioned then you’ll be in a much better position to move on.

Oh, and don't get me started on that CPC bullshit

Lorry is just what we call trucks in the UK

You’re seventy years too late to tell Dr Beeching not to close all the branch lines.

amerifags label 'truck' everything from 900 kg truck to 900 ton truck

Attached: truckfail.jpg (700x461, 129K)

>Twats
Agreed, even as a car driver

HIAB? I haven’t got the ticket. I spend a lot of time with a pump truck on a tail lift though.

Also, you have to contend with the other dickheads on the road

This wasn't me, but a good friend. He really didn;t deserve this to happen to him. he's fine now

Good on ya

Ive done all the 7.5 i can be arsed with for the multi-droppers so this is why im off to class 1 . Class 2 seems the same old same old so i just dont fancy the struggle of cages but on a bigger basis .

Theres a TP not too far away as it happens . Im interested in the more involved stuff like that rather than fucking about running from 1 end to the other over a few days while the neighbours take it in turns on the mrs . Quite like the idea of skip or cememt , bit of gravel etc .... this is why the fuel seems a crack . Mate in charge is pulling 60 grand a year basically doing 4 on and 4 off . Top pension , sick pay , bloody googd lifestyle where you are internal so no tacho plus oddly inhouse ADR .

Seems a plan !

Look at the second part of my post here -

what the fuck is a lorry?

I'be a better hiab operator than a driver, and I'm a fucking good driver. never really got on with Hiab's tho. Preferred Atlas/terex, but they're getting phased out in favour of HMFs, which is going to turn out to be a false economy, as they're so over-stuffed with bullshit they're just never going to stop going wrong.

Yeah, I got caught in the traffic near the M4 for about 4 Hours. Apparently the guy died of a heart attack

Mate of mine trains the new recruits . Because its an airport its all inhouse so ``apparently `` they are cool with new passers ..... im with you on the experience , its normal standard in every other job except it seems this one !
Im not too far from a petrol depot also . Fuckers are on 27 quid an hour at the weekend ..... i could do with some of that action

Good luck to you if you can get in there. Tanker driving is usually a pretty closed shop. Dead men’s shoes and all that.

The uk we use truck and lorry .

You park the truck in a lorry park for example

>A lorry driver calling other people on the road dickheads
Glad your mate is fine tho

Is your mum's name Lorry? 'cause I drive her twice a day on Sunday. Rest of the blokes give her a toss the other days, you know. Gotta wait your turn.

You have no idea. He weigh a minimum of 18 tonnes fully loaded and puddlejumpers seem to think we still have the stopping distance & braking maneuverability of a car.

where are the best places to get food on the road?

What are the rest of you driving? I’m almost always in Dafs, sometimes a totally knackered Renault. I gaze enviously at Scania drivers, especially V8s, because I’ve heard they’re the best.

take it with you

supermarkets are good

cafes can be expensive or questionable quality

Why dont you just let the air out of the tyres and inflate them once your under the bridge.

Depends what you want. I try not to just eat shit fast food but sometimes a greasy bacon bap from a man in a lay-by is perfect, other times I’ll stop at the services on the motorway and get prawn sandwiches and fruit from M&S. The best is when you find a lovely chippy in a tiny village miles from anywhere.

It’s a bit late for that.

Lorry Driver? What a faggot. You may as well be driving a van. Real Trucks & Truck drivers only exist in Australia.

No wonder you were in an accident there, you're on the wrong fucking side of the road.

I just dropped 2 off.

They were carrying lorries.

oh cool. in america we have a couple different names for theses trucks depending on the type.

thanks for the response, OP
