Fuckin praise em man, I like cap beefheart little more tho ;)
He rules
Mostis shit, some is entertaining, none is good music
Who?
His balls felt like a pair of maracas.
I might be moving to montana soon...
who's the paki?
Avante garde does nothing for me. I don't care how musically informed the composition is.
Mans a genius. I say that not very often about people but he is. I have everything he ever released. 19gb in total. The cunt never stopped. He's pure unashamedly experimental. So it's unlikely people will like everything he has produced. Joe's garage and you are what you is, both good starts into his rabbit hole.
heard of the name, can honestly say that I don't think i've heard any of his songs. what is he famous for?
His music is genius and revolutionary.
That said, I can't stand actually listening to it.
The guy who wrote Willie the Pimp and The Idiot Bastard Son.
Don't worry, he was only in it for the money.
Avant garde, go away and fuck yourself if you actually think he's avant garde. Spastic. Go listen to Doreen and come back and say that
You should see his performance on the Steve Allen Show. It's on jewtube.
apparently nothing.
that was joe, actually.
200 Motels was groundbreaking.
i see what you did there
Love it. "I am the slime from your video" seems more relevant today with Big Orange puking out crap every day, but it was always slime.
The one thing I didn't like about him was that he stated problems with society but didn't have solutions. He would state a problem and then get pissed when everyone else didn't immediately get busy and fix the things he saw were wrong. That's the easy part, Frank!
When he named his daughter Moon Base, that ended it for me. Some stuff was brilliant, most wasn't.
Moon Unit, the voice of Valley Girl.
Son is called Dweezil.
Joe's Garage is good and so is Valley Girl but most of his stuff is pretty strange.
Now is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?
Fucking genius, a pioneer even. Also it takes some balls and dedication to release 40+ albums and never sell out or even make it into mainstream
Moon Unit
Oh shit, I forgot about Dweezil, probably on purpose.
>avant-garde
Well, he did credit Edgard Varèse and Karl Kohn as influences on the Hot Rats album. And he did throw some pseudo-twelvetone bits into some of his work.
His most accessible pieces, though, are the ones based on doo-wop and pachuco styles.
So, like back in the mid-1960s, Zappa was taking any gig that paid real money and he wound up doing the soundtrack for a porn movie being shot in a warehouse out in eastern Pomona or maybe even Upland (fifty miles east of Los Angeles).
One day, Zappa came to work late as usual. Lucky for him the vice squad had already come and carted off the rest of the crew.
This story came to me from Bill Russell, the chairman of the music department at Pomona College. Zappa had been trying to study independently at that time with the composer-in-residence of that college.
