South florida is fucked so uh good bye new cuba
The fucking eye is as big as the okachobee fuck me this is guna suck
All my friends who have lived here forever laugh it off and say nothing is going to happen. This was even when models showed it slamming straight into us here in Ft Lauderdale. They have since showed it to be swinging north and so maybe the friends who laughed will be proven right, but I'm still nervous. CA transplant, never been in a hurricane before.
its not scary just imagine a big thunder storm
Florida works as a natural shield. Hurricanes tend to bounce off the east coast. We've gotten very lucky in the past. But when a big one like this actually makes a direct hit, people will be in for a sad surprise.
With 150 mile an hour winds. Which are capable of ripping frame houses to shreds if sustained long enough.
You in Ft Laudy Daudy... you'll be fine. Gonna get a shit ton of rain, power will go out, that sort. If you're east of 95 in like oakland park or in the isles or something you'll likely get some flooding.
Further north is going to get a bit more. Me here in palm beach is probably going to get a bit heavier rain, but for the most part still should be ok... I'm just pissed that I recently fixed my roof and I'm going to have to do it all over again (most likely).
I feel for st lucie and the sort. They going to get wrecked again... just like the last few storms.
eh i am not scared
pops lives in this area and every time they had an evacuation he refused to leave and was fine every time. News likes to blow it up for views
Mainly because it's going to miss us and we'll be spared any significant damage. You probably wouldn't be scared either way though, because you haven't actually experienced anything to be scared of. But hurricanes are highly destructive especially when it startsthrowing tornadoes around.
>i aint neva scared
Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. Sounds like he's always gotten the best, but not everyone is so lucky. But I agree with staying. These things are so unpredictable, unless you're going mainland America, you're still at risk of the thing turning and going straight for whatever you're headed. If you have a decent brick or concrete building, those will typically be fine, but if you have a wooden frame house, as most people in Florida still do, you will likely be in for a bit of damage in case of a direct hit.
i am not scared because i am experienced
WERE ALL GOING TO FUCKNG DIE!!!!!!!!! HHHHHHNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGG
What, realistically should I have stocked up? I'm used to preparations for earthquakes in CA, but we're talking about ground shaking that would knock down highway overpasses and make commerce impossible for a while. Water lines and gas lines would be broken. I had 6 55 gallon water barrels along with 2 100lb propane tanks, camping burners, generator and plenty of dried and canned goods. Here, it's more flat lands, roads that would only be affected by downed trees and power lines. I wouldn't suspect they would be impassible for weeks on end such as with an earthquake. After a big hurricane, if power is out, how many days are gas stations without fuel for sale? Is propane hard to come by at that time? We have a 5000 gallon pool, so with a water filtration system that removes contaminants, I feel I'm set there.
Personally what we do is this:
1) fill jugs with water, drinking/potable water is a necessity.
2) food that doesn't require to be refrigerated. We do peanut butter, bread, veg ok on the counter, that sort.
3) Batteries galore.
4) If you own your house, a generator is nice. But not necessary (I don't have one). You're likely not running your AC off the generator unless you also get a small AC unit (120v unless your generator will do 240).
Other than that... stay sane.
Personally we just get drunk.
cont'd
Company is probably the best part. It's always nice if you either have friends/fam to come to your place. Or a place to go.
Being alone can get scary/lonely.
I've been here for 25 years now, been through lots of storms. And having buds to hang with has always been a god send.
ur all literally autistic lmao kill urselves
Yes... we're the autistic ones.

Scotfag here want to show you a truth
Hurricane hits Florida full force millions in damages, terrible, some loss of life, many homeless. Takes 2-3 years for proper funding to fix things, rehome people etc because the money isn't available.
Or... this may happen.
Hurricane diverts north and heads for Manhattan Island, 100s of Millions of damage to buildings etc, businesses in bad shape may possibly take months to get back into shape. Government instantly sends the money to get them back into operation quickly. Somehow finding the 100s of millions needed.
Thats the reality.
It's happened before 9/11 funding came out quickly to get affected businesses etc back into the swing of things, paying out to families who lost people.
at same time disaster relief from tornadoes and a couple of hurricanes get very little help, relies on UN help and funding.
Because in America Business comes first people come second.
hurricane sandy?
Please stop feeding the flagrant troll.
I'm going on a road trip that I scheduled weeks ago. I'll be returning to northern FL late Thursday. I might miss it completely or I might be driving straight into it when it makes landfall. Just don't know.
My townhouse is pretty well prepped. We're barely west of I-95. I have shelves of canned food and a two-battery solar panel kit. The biggest concern is the wife who gets storm-induced migraines, so she suffers twice during storms.
>storm-induced migraines
Do you mean stress/anxiety?
Well that was later, but yeah 70bn+ was a bad time.
But yeah NY got the funding quickly, other states like NC, NJ etc didn't. IIRC some popstars got together and did a quick charity event and raised about 30 million for people affected.
I think NY had the brunt of damage with $40bn or more? But funny how that funding came quick for them, but other states didn't.
Corporates protecting themselves using the government funding available.
I've been in Florida since 98, the only cool hurricanes we had were in the early 00s when everything was flooded and we surfed in all the swells. Other than that the hurricane relief money they give us afterwards is nice. Got $1200 last year. Also nothing ever happens to any of our places. We lost a shed and that was it.
