Well the easiest and cheapest way to get into the field is to contact a huge company and they'll hire you and pay/train you to get your CDL. But the downside with that is that you have to sign a contract and work for them for less pay for a few years. For reference, a person just starting out will make, say, $0.45/mile. Whereas, since they paid for your CDL, they'll only pay you $0.30/mile for 2-3 years then pay you the $0.45/mile after your contract is up. And if you quit/get fired, you have to pay the remainder of what they say your education costed(which is always BS cause they pay a yearly fee and can train as many people). So like the "$6000" they say they paid for you to get it is actually only something like $20 per person, and they make mad profits on you.
It's much better to pay for your CDL school which there are a million in every city in the country and it's generally around $5000-7000 to get a Class A, which you can either pay in full or some schools offer financing. Then you can just choose what company pays best and go from there.
I'm an owner/operator which means I own my truck and I actually own my trailer too and so I get paid way more. But I also have to pay for fuel, repairs, my toll/scale pass, equipment, etc but I still make around $2500/week after expenses. But taxes are nuts. So after everything, I make about $240,000 each year take home.
