Adam and Eve learned the truth of good and evil, they were not ready for this knowledge and they were punished for disobeying God. When sons of God descended onto earth and gave people knowledge of warcraft that too expanded our knowledge but it also spread bloodshed and evil. Aye. There are gene sections in whales that are "turned off", but with the right mutation, they turn on again and then you get whales with weird stumps for legs.
Same with chicken teeth. AFAIK that is one of the more common mutations. There's DNA in chickens that never turns into RNA > proteins > body features, but with the right mutation, it does, and then teeth happen.
