I'm unhappy with my career choice, I miss my old job, I miss being free to do shit when I want, I miss driving cars, I fucking hate this place. I'm out of shape and over weight, I feel like I'm on edge all the time because of it. I don't really know what to say, I'm just unhappy and if I could get served separation papers, I'd take them.

i ride my bike 10 miles to get to work, against the wind, during the hot part of the day, and the hill is on the way there and takes 15 minutes to climb; an hour and a half.
10 miles home, takes an hour, at night, no wind, hill takes 30 seconds.
2 days ago i saw a cop cleaning up a roadkill dog. not only is it not fun to see a slain pooch, but its a harsh reminder of the death machines i have to compete with. holy crap i got cut off alot of death machines on my way to work yesterday.

I'm not in barracks (at least not now), I'm in the VOQ because these are kinda nicer than the rooms on Camp Johnson. And the BEQ there refused to house officers, for good reason. New River is pretty chill. I like the gym here.
Dude I hate supply. I have a multimillion dollar budget and another multimillion dollars with of property to manage. When you guys fuck up, you get yelled at. I get fired, and so does Gunny. It's one of those officer/enlisted dichotomies but enlisted get a lot of counseling and guidance but as an officer, once you hit operating forces you're expected to know everything. And your higher authorities really don't do any of the counseling or mentorship. Just "figure it out lieutenant".
Honestly, I don't know. I'm a lieutenant so I get to babysit and manage things, sometimes. At least at the unit I was supposed to go to it was weapons company. And then I got rhabdo and got the green weenie as consolation prize. And since I'm going to be a reservist, I can't lat move to raiders and all 03 MOS have been closed for 5 years.
Man, that sucks. That's a lot of fucking shit ass bike riding through downtown traffic.

Jokes and shit aside don't call me sir, Charles is fine. Like I get it that's my name too but I had the name well before I put on gold bars.
I started at my OCS, I'm not prior enlisted. OCS and the depots are pretty different though, to be a recruit you basically need your diploma and to be able to respond to instructions. In order to qualify for OCS, you need to be doing a 1st class PFT minimu, and to be competitive for selection, 260 or higher. We don't get the same amount of fuck fuck games and discipline that you guys get, we still get them but OCS is to screen and evaluate so a lot more of it is performance based, and they can drop you. You don't sign a contract saying you need to be there. I could write a few good paragraphs having been a candidate and a staff member there about the shit that goes on.
After that, all officers go to The Basic School, which is similar to MCT but instead of being provisional riflemen we're provisional rifle platoon commanders. It's six months long, about a third of it is in the field. After Lts graduated from TBS, they go to their MOS school. I got my first choice which was infantry and my unit was a weapons company. We had about a month in MAT platoon between TBS and the start of Infantry Officer's Course. I took a week of leave while I was feeling kinda sick, went home, came back and then the Monday I got back we did a Murph. I did the whole fucking thing, and I got rhabdomyolysis, pissing my muscle away. I was doing 18 pull ups on my PFT and went immediately to none. We took a PFT the next week, which is when I found out what happened because I did two pull ups. I still managed perfect crunches and a sub 20 three mile but shit I got a lot of attention from staff over that.
Three weeks later after that class had picked up and doc wouldn't let me go the director came down and said I wasn't worth the money to train, among other things. So they put me in supply.

Oh, officers don't sign contracts for MOS unless they're a flight student. That's why they're able to change your MOS so easily.
I requested mast over gettiing redesignated, it didn't change anything. I want to try out for raiders but reserve officers can't and the current ALMARs says that reserve officers can't lat move into 0302. So I have the rest of my contract to go, and unless any of that paperwork changes, I'll give up on my dreams and shit
If I can give you one piece of advice, it's that if you're even a little bit sick, go see doc. If I saw doc before the Murph, I'd probably be gearing up for IOCs culminating event

It's all good man, I get it. I'm not going to fucking put you at parade rest on Yea Forums and make you scream aye aye sir while doing burpees and call you a bitch.
Yeah, you guys get a ton of discipline. OCS has that but it's more as a way to weed people out and not so much to build anyone up or instill discipline. We have to "set the example", we get blackballed for a second class PFT or CFT and a failed physical test can end your career. I wanted LAAD as my first choice after that and then a few other aviation related things. I really wanted to be a tracker but there are no reserve track units on the west coast.
There's some opportunity, I don't remember the ALMARs word for word right now but it's possible to do so, although none of them appeal to me enough to want to stay in any more than I ahve to. If it's not recon, raiders or weapons company, I want out. I'll write congress if I have to, I won't give up on this until everything is exhausted.

When did you graduate? The uniform thing is fine, that's a basic appearance thing, and those dumb inspections reflect on your pros and cons, and get you to being an NCO. Once officers graduate OCS they never drill or march again so the walk fast everywhere thing and falling into formation we data dump. But believe me I'll pound 5000 calories a meal like it's fucking nothing. I don't have anything too scaring from OCS, but I ahve plenty of memories
