I saw a mega a while ago I swore I saved but can’t find with some but if I have a copy I’ll print them now and store away for when needed when not reading. Wife works at a printing company so can print all I want
It’s so your fire doesn’t give off light and can be spotted. You can hang a pot or have a grate over the fire for cooking still but doesn’t put out as much heat.

This guide, like many others here, is wrong. In most fish, including Salmon, you would leave a row of bones all throughout the filet that way.
Half of these guides look like they are written by half-educated morons. But they are made for Americans, that's probably why.
Like the guide for living self sufficient, it says cows are not land efficient, but that's just stupid, you get cows to convert otherwise useless land into calories. All of my reading materials are in the form of books in my BOB at home, so i cant help too much. But i do know from memory that you can make a basic filter out of sand fine charcoal and pebbles, the more layers the better the filter, filters parasites and other nasty junk

Fire produces smoke, even if in the ground, so you make yourself waaay more suspicious by making a fire that is hidden. Posing as unassuming friendly camper is not as suspicious. What user said is true. I learned this in the Army. What makes the heat in the sleeping bag is your body heating up circulating air inside the sleeping bag. If you stuff the bag by wearing too much clothes, there is less air for your body to heat up.
The moisture part is easily proven. Hold your hands over your mouth and breathe. Feel the moist. Now do that through a night and your bag is nice and moisty and definitely prone to freeze should you find yourself in sub-zero temperatures

The sleeping bag thing is self-experienced though. I'm from a northern European country, and during a winter excercise I made the mistake of wearing all of my uniform in the sleeping bag.
