A pro tip for you user! You can hide unsightly ethernet and hdmi cables running from one room to the next under the carpet along the walls. There is a space between the subflor and your baseboard along your walls where the carpet doesn't go, if you lift up your carpet along the walls you can put the cables in there and then push the carpet edges back in place. It looks much nicer, be sure not to lay the cables up on the carpet tack (the board attached to the subfloor that has lil nails sticking out of it to hold the carpet in place). Never do this with power cables though, always always have an electrician install new outlets in that case.

Also if you don't have carpet all along the place you want to run an ethernet cable or hdmi cable and you have a basement and central heating/air and the vents are on the floor you can lift a vent up and drill a small hole in the floor where the vent edges would cover it up and run the cable along the ceiling of your basement and up through another hole in the intended room. Be sure you aren't drilling into your duct work though!
