Worked in middle management for a couple years and I can tell you that, if there’s no high school diploma on the application, you didn’t even get an interview. And this was in retail in the mid ‘00s. Learn how to make money from your passions online, and learn 1 in demand skill (coding, as an example) and you’re good to go. And being creative or entrepreneurial will help as the automation of work really kicks in

I dropped out of highschool, I can tell you its a not a choice you should make lightly as it really makes your life hard. I got my GED at 22 and went into the trades when I was 23 and managed to make a career for myself but from age 16-22 I as in deep depression and constantly thought about suicide because I felt I was a failure. the social stigma really weighs on you.

I agree with that fellow poster, learn and develop a marketable skill, something that will be worthwhile as you can use it to support your passion. I am not saying give up on art and literature but you have to understand the cold reality of it being way harder to pursue that path in the world we live in.

This is no longer true. That’s a baby boomer meme you’re spouting. The hard truth is that the economy is going to look so different in 10 years that nobody quite knows right now what education will be effective and helpful. There are many people in their mid life who are finding themselves without a career or paycheck to paycheck. A degree doesn’t grant security for life anymore, especially with automation of most of the job market on the horizon. Doctors and lawyers will be out of business soon, but artists will still be needed in the future economy (you can’t automate art, at least not yet) Most white collar jobs will be automated away.
Add to that the reality that most high paying jobs are in tech right now, and a large percentage of those coders are self taught, and it really shoots a major hole in this old trope. Face it lads, it’s learn to swim time and OP might actually be better suited for the future economy that a lot of you office drones

If you really must, take a high school equivalency exam. It's not quite as good as a diploma but legally it must be recognized as such. I did this in 11th grade because of the impossible living situation I was in.

1. How is doing art and studying lit going to help you in the next year?
2. You can continue to do those the rest of your life, but you only have 1 more year of high school. Finishing it will not hurt you, but dropping out might. Obviously you can still read and do art over the next year if you stay in high school, it’ll just be less than you’d like for now.
3. Senior year of HS is pretty fun. You might even meet a girl or two. Fuck a high school girl while you can because they’re peak youthfulness & beauty and you won’t be able to for the rest of your life without being a creeplord
