Don't want to go to college and be in debt, don't want to wage slave my entire life, any recommendations or tips for a career that wont lead to my suicide/early death?
Don't want to go to college and be in debt, don't want to wage slave my entire life...
Collect discarded plastic bottles for $$
1) Choose "independently wealthy" as a career.
2) No need to get off your lazy, entitled, brainwashed ass to work!
Welding is always good. There’s always work, pay is good to great, normally you have a strong union so good benefits.
You could also go to community college for a degree and not rack up thousands of dollars of debt. Private big name school degrees don’t have the same impact they used to.
You can go to a community college, get a diploma or associates degree in something in demand and get a decent paying job. You can even teach yourself to code if that’s what you’re into. Then if you have enough disposable income look into passive income like dividend stocks.
yeah that's actually what i was thinking for a long time since i already have some welding experience but i kept hearing stories of welders making little to nothing to live on
i'm sure you're a nice guy in real life right?
I worked as a forest ranger for 7 years, they were honestly the happiest of my life, there is no "boss" really, there is no oversight, there's no quota to hit and you get to live in a cabin in a national park if you're lucky.
The money was ok, but the sense of freedom and lack of pressure is something I regret now giving up.
I left to join the Marines like my brothers and father (he's a Colonel), it's very different and has some similarities to the ranger job, but you said no early death... so never mind.
Honestly? Go to community college and get fasfa. I did 2 years entirely free. Didnt pay a dime. Got a 3.9 GPA and switched to a university and got scholarships and fasfa. Working shitty jobs for now is better because of the long term goals. Saving money.
You need to focus on a way to make money without having an overseer. Either some kind of trade where you learn how to do a service that people will need and while you're young, the debt you incur is simply to build your own business.
Either that, or you need to ride a wave of something trendy and jump off at the correct time (Cyber Security is the current 'wave' for example). But this is difficult because it's usually area dependent and requires some luck.
The key to both of these is that you are not a financial retard. If you're one of those kinds of people whom if given a cash prize of $500, immediately buys $500 in booze and hookers, you'll never make it as your own boss. Resign yourself to wage slavery so you have a steady paycheck that you can't blow before you have to pay your bills.
join the military and go to school for free
electrician
I wish I thought this before going to college. I'm in debt and its holding me back from a lot.
My advise would be is to read economics books, learn to balance a check book, practice you're handwriting if it sucks, learn the difference between stocks and bonds as it relates to investing, learn about investment properties, learn the difference between interest and principal as it relates to loans.
Basically learn the shit that's colleges dont teach that's actually going to help in the real world. I've been doing all of this and I've actually seen a difference in my life.
No one has given a shit about my degree but people do appreciate it when they know you have knowledge on these things.
Good luck user
Well it depends on what you're interested and what you want to do. For me I always had a negative output on school and such so during my highschool years I didn't give a fuck and just skipped all the time and my GPA was literally a fucking 2.5 I knew I was smart too, got a 90 on the asvab and a 1400 on Sat testing but I just didn't cared what happens to me. I couldn't get accepted to the schools I was interested so I did my 2 years of community college for free, joined the airforce for 4 years used that money to get an apartment, car and pay for University, majored in history because who gives a fuck about your bachelor's if you're an officer and now I'm living the life making 80k a year plus vacation and shit paid for and don't have to worry about housing. Also I learned some coding during my off time in the airforce so as a side job I do website designing just for a little spending money time to time. We don't know what you're interested in OP but the best we can do is give you suggestions and our experience. I suggest doing the airforce for a few years and see where that takes you and what do you want to do later on in life
This. The most benefit I got from college was being in a dorm so I could do random shit on my own with internet and a computer of my own without any kind of set schedule.
Classes were a complete and utter waste of time and money. If anything, it would have been better to take a year and live somewhere like a college with people the same age so you had the social experience and some kind of 'structure' and then maybe audit some random classes that I found interesting with no consequences to failure.
In retrospect it would have been better to audit 300-400 level classes and learn the concepts then to take a 100 level class and repeat garbage that you can google. But if you're paying for college they don't even let you TAKE the class until you went through the BS classes.
No, I'm an asshole irl too.
Where are you from? Im from shitholistan sweden. One positive thing about that is that I can go to college for free as long as im smart enough to get into the course I want to.
Currently in compsci, and I think this is one of the largest problems with students. They pick stupid shit to become. Say what you want about compsci but after uni you can get a lot of different jobs and basically not be unemployed unless youre retarded.
What would I do if I didnt go to college? Construction. Id learn how to frame walls and build, why? Because you can buy shit houses, fix them up. I believe you call it "flipping houses". Later on you can rent them out or sell them.
Not to mention the shit you can do to your own house.
But honestly, Id probably go to college in the US as well, and do the mandatory mil service instead of debt. You think you got it bad in the US with debt and shit, but its all about being smart with how you do shit in life. How you spend your money etc.
It aint that hard.
what did you do in college? Liberal arts or whatever you americans call it?
That shits pretty dumb.
>college
>in debt
'murica
Its me again, the reason people have debt and never get a job after uni that is on a higher level is because of the stupid shit they pick. If you are a engineer or doctor, or a programmer you wont have the same issues after college like someone who studied gender studies or liberal arts.
That shit is simply for destroying america, building one marxist at a time.
Yea its much better in sweden.... Pay over half of your income to taxes for "FREE" uni.... Please stop being so fucking stupid.
America isnt perfect, but if you knew socialism youd know why america is superior.
I appreciate free college in sweden, but I wont stay here. Id simply be stupid enough to drain my own bank account over time for what? Immigration? no thanks. Id rather keep my coin.
>welders making little to nothing to live on
complete bullshit
sounds like you talked to welders that dont want you competing with them for work
Would argue the point, at least from a software dev standing. You'd be surprised how much the programming market is getting fucked by cheap outsourcing. A lot of the bigger companies don't even have IT departments anymore, and smaller businesses are following in suit
That it they are really shitty weilders.
Depends where you go, a lot of people let themselves get trapped in shitty small town type gigs (small town mindset/"this is all I couldnfind because I didn't look more than 20 miles away from house) or don't specialize.. a lot of guys I know work a day job welding then do people's fences or other projects on the weekend and that's where most of their disposable comes from.
Indians are to IT what Mexicans are to Construction
Absolutely, you are right. To india and Ukraine I believe. However, this is simply mostly for "coding". Still, jobs are abundant and more to come. In the next few years, there are 27 million jobs to be created in america in software development. They say that there will be enough jobs till im 80, and im in my twenties.
There is a lot of things that you can do in IT. Analytics of businesses, software construction, design, maintainance, leadership, etc etc etc... It is insanely broad.
The coding, is the least paying job by the way. So im not particularly concerned about that.
join the army. free college
this. But yeah it takes like 8 years but still.
The "join the military get free college" choice that people have suggested seems like a decent decision.
I'll tell you that after I graduated from college I sent 100's of resumes out and got only a handful of interviews. Then I contacted a temp agency and immediately got a surprisingly good job. Don't even bother applying to large corporations, they don't care how good a worker you are, how smart or fast you can learn new skills, they only care if you have at least 5 years experience in the exact position you're applying for (even if they say it's an "entry-level" job.)
Target either small companies or temp agencies. I hope that helps.
get into a trade that has a career oportunity. start on the floor, work your way up. some said welder here i guess they have good pay but i dont see how you can work your way up from that. dont know what things are done where you are but here they rather hire an experienced plumber than someone with a degree straight out of school.
underrated advice given OP's conditions -lol
You dont see how you can work your way up from that? Hahaha, im a swede so I laugh at that.
We have this fucking massive idiot in office as our Prime Minister, he used to be a welder.
Hes a total fucking retard too. But oh well.
Enlist in the military faggot
You aren't special, suck it up you leech.
What you want and what you get are different things.
Elevator mechanic
I make over 100,000 euros per year from recycling.
Everything from metals to paper, glass, electronics.
Computer Science.
However, I did it back in the late 90s so yes, it was pretty fucking dumb.
This.
Cloud is fucking IT people. Hardware people need to move into the hot aisle of a data center, software people are on the street or doing cyber security for $30k a year for the government.
get fit
Trade school. Skilled labor is at a premium.
Follow Mike Rowe ("Dirty Jobs" guy). He has lots of great ideas.
Go to college and pick a degree in something the you can branch out in.
Start in community college and get government aid, then transfer to a university to finish your degree.
I've picked computer science because I like the subject and I live around Silicon Valley so I already have a job waiting for me once I get out.
Anything in the STEM field is a good bet for future stability in the work force.
Currently just working a shitty low wage job before I get out of college.
Living below my means to save up for a house once I get out of college to live closer to my job I will be getting.
STEM is a meme.
Get a trade. Electrician or plumber. I'm an electrician and make a decent amount of money and I kill it on side jobs. Got a decent life and have fun with my guys at work. Union is the way to go bro. See how much a union electrician or plumber makes in your area. I make 41 an hour and I got paid to go to school. I didn't pay a dime for my education.
Not if you live where the jobs are.
Got a job at Intel after working as a temp after my first two years of college then promised a position after graduating.
It definitely helps if you know the right people.
Californian here.
Have a friend who went to school to be a lineman.
He only started out making around 35k a year.
I made more than that at a shitty warehouse job that I did during college which payed 50k a year.
If you are a great student, goto college. Otherwise, don't. I had no business in college, glad I never racked up the debt.
Trades with a union, seriously all the college grads I know, are still in debt, all the trade workers I know have a house a family and a lake house.
No, you gotta get in debt to invest in your future. Yeah school is somewhat a scam. But If you don't want to work hard then fuck off. Or try tech school
College is not for everyone.
You don't have to conform.
Work with your hands - be comfortable.
Work with your hands and heart - become rich.
didnt know that? my neighbour cunt is run by a welder. bet he has more knowledge about real life than most other politicans.
>my neighbour cunt is run by a welder.
Go to your loc community college and get an associate’s degree in networking or network security or some crap like that.
Then get certifications from authoritative bodies.
You’ll always be needed with education like that. And it’s cheap.
No i didnt mean to come off like that, of course you didnt know. Sweden is a shithole and who cares about politics. I just found it to be a funny comment.
The prime minister of sweden is a total moron.
Sell drugs or be a burglar
