Compare that to your average requester, they really don't give a shit about their request. If it gets done, awesome, if not, oh well. Often, they abandon the request after an hour or so, maybe even minutes after requesting. It's just a quick idea that popped in their head, and it left as quick as it came in.

You get some great textures with oil pastels paired with some paper with a nice tooth, but I've always been shitty with stuff like pastels and colored pencils and graphite. I prefer cross hatching in ink with most kinds of pens (ballpoint, felt, and fountain/dip), and if it's digital I alternate between doing it in black, then over again with white/eraser for different textures.

the most two common types of pastels are oil and chalk. They're technically different but they share some properties, and being not so good for scratching is one.
For scratching techniques you really wanna use something that can be removed from the canvas at least on a 80-90% in one scratch/smear. Pastels suck for that. In fact, the whole smearing is how you blend with pastels.

I think the hate is misguided. The quality of requests is absolute garbage. it's the same spam shit every thread and every good request is buried because they dont quote a fag they want to draw it. bad requests pile up, making the people who actually want to draw flock somewhere else. this exasperates when abuse follows ignoring terrible requests. abuse combined with no real fulfillment of the craft makes drawfags leave. these threads get worse as people who can handle/ignore the abuse join and begin to hugbox as "victims" of the shit requesters. this snowballs to what he have now, where it's only people who can handle the abuse, but would prefer to talk to each other rather than draw anything. the real problem is the shit requests and the lack of moderation on the autism outbursts.
the problem is you can't stop autism in its full force, so you cant fix this kind of broken
