I think life is ultimately not worth living. I don't regret being born, but I do think it's pointless to conceive new life. Now that I'm here the best I can hope for is to find meaning in existence, but I definitely have no desire to do the same for another human life.

The argument that we didn't consent to birth doesn't make sense. There was no one alive to consent or not consent to being born, consent doesn't play a part. In the same way, however, it is not something that parents should be thanked for, since they didn't commit the action for us for exactly the same reason: there was no one yet alive for which to bestow the 'privilege' of life upon.

Very well, but that's a claim that needs backing up as well, then. Is it the amount of suffering that exists? (so the likelihood of suffering?) or is it the intensity? Or a combination? Either way, it's difficult to quantify and there's not an answer without arguing about much more (such as what constitutes goodness, what constitutes badness, whether one can offset the other or whether it's more Apples and oranges, whether the yet to exist agent can even be spoken about in this way). There's a lot of literature on the subject and the argument can't be simply stated without many more presuppositions which need supporting.

As someone who suffers excruciating pain every day, I say try living my life for one day. Let's see if you still disagree with OP after.

Yes but then that's retroactive consent, and would in principle always have to be. Consent only makes sense if the action could have been NOT consented to, but we can never not consent to birth since we don't exist before birth (or conception). This is just one opinion anyway, there are plenty of moral philosophers who disagree with me and think the non existent agent CAN be spoken about in this way, and would agree with you.

Once you're here you should try and make the best of it. The problem is once you're here you've already made personal attachments to your family/friends and killing yourself would make them upset thus making increasing suffering.

The argument to be made though is whether a parent is selfish for having a kid and expecting them to not kill themselves because it would make them sad. It's commonly said that it's selfish to commit suicide but it's also selfish to expect them to not.

I think we don't owe our life to anyone. But I think it could possibly be immoral purely for the pain it would cause (not because we 'owe' it to anyone to stay alive). But I don't have too strong an opinion on the issue
