Should foreigners speak english in the USA?
Should foreigners speak english in the USA?
Yes
I wouldn't move to, let's say Germany, and expect the native inhabitants to learn my language. I understand learning a new language isn't easy, but they should make an effort, sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.
No, they should speak their language, in their countries.
As long as Americans do the same when they go abroad!
If they live there yes, if on vacation no.
OP here. I agree with most of you but I want to have evidence and more reasons why to persuade someone to speak english. I also want to beat them in a debate on why they SHOULD speak english.
If they don't already speak english they don't need to be coming.
If you're visiting, it isn't an obligation but it would help both parties out a lot if they did. If living here, absolutely. You don't have to forget your first language, but it should be mandatory for you to learn how to speak at least intermediate American English. You're coming to this country, you must be a part of our society. You're not coming here to isolate yourself and make a second version of your country, you're here to be an American. And honestly, it is a little annoying having to talk to people who made absolutely no effort to learn our language, or less than the minimum. It's rude, if I planned on moving to Cuba or Pakistan or something, I should be expecting to learn how to speak their languages.
I am a greek born in the USA, i speak greek with my family, friends and wife but communicate in English when talking to a waitress, government official or anyone who is not Greek, i Mexicans to do the same
Good! May I have more reasons why on doing so? I wish to demolish my opponents on why foreigners should speak english.
Just want to add that Americans should speak American proper English. Wtf is up with Americans faking British accents and try to speak like Game of Thrones and Peppa Pig.
no, they should speak american
no, its a shitty language
Idk, I don't have much more to say lol. It's a sign of respect for your new country, it's a sign of respect for our culture if you're visiting or planning to live here. It makes things much easier; say you get lost, get in trouble legally or with the locals, you're gonna want to talk your way out of it or understand what you're in trouble for. Say you meet someone and sparks fly, you're gonna want to talk to them, right? It gives you more opportunities to find work, no one is going to want to hire some FOB who doesn't speak a lick of english. It's also completely unfair for people to hire within their own groups, or start businesses with their own groups and shun the rest of the country they chose to live in specifically.
Assimilate or leave. We're not going to cater to your third world shit language.
I don't know about the job thing, when i was younger i worked at a restaurant that hired specifically greeks
You do, it's called american.
What about us who come from first world countries? Can i speak greek?
Yeah, that's racism right there.
Poster explained this well.
"It's also completely unfair for people to hire within their own groups."
>Yes
if they want to live here
/thread
when we live abroad sure
>implying we should let foreigners live in the US
Fucking globalist scum.
At least the fucking basics. I work in South LA and there's literally generations of spics who never learned English. They mostly never leave the area but God damn, your life would be easier if you learn it
Yeah of course they should.
Twist off you wanker
most of them do
>Greek
>first world
>Greek government-debt crisis
Kek
Foreigners get pissed when Americans don't speak their languages and travel there.
If they live here, they should be required to speak English. I don't care if they have a bunch of other languages, but they need to be able to communicate with the average person of our society.
Greece doesn't have a Debt crisis because it has a budget surplus, unlike other countries with budget deficit like France, Italy, turkey, japan and USA
But we have the right to do it, we can hire whoever we want and we choose other greek people because 1 They could create greek food more easily (if w hire them aw sefs) 2 can communicate with other employees, the owner and other greek customers easier 3 we like to help other greeks find a job
Should US citizens speak english?
Should they? Yes. Must they? No.
should white people get taught that they to are foreigners in the usa?
No. The USA has no official language, just a convenient lingua franca. It could become Spanish tomorrow and, let's be honest, probably will one day.
yet those countrys still accept immigrants, unlike america.who is the opposite
too*
Dipshit
I'm not American, but i've always believed if you are visiting it's just generally helpful to learn some of their language but to only speak it would be foolish, if they are there to stay though then yes definitely.
Most of the industrialized world speaks english as a second language, and you are thinking spanish will take over this country? Get a grip, faggot.
go cry about immigrants some more retard, how's that wall working out? almost 4 years and it still aint here,LOL.get fucked
