And about rural east - well I'm from urban North-West, so can't help with that. Though, you should keep in mind that most russians only speak russian, especially far from big cities, so there will be a HUGE language barrier.

just curios bc i like to travel, but mostly by car/4x4, and a teacher said europe just stop by the ural mountain but you can still find "european" russian citys in the far east. politics are hard and a good friend of mine who lives close to the border said its a much longer from moscow to oslo than it is from murmansk to kirkenes. not to talk about moscow and washington.

If by "european" you mean white, then yes, most of larger Russian cities is mostly white. And if you travel on car, try to fill up your tank within the cities and not on a lonely highway gas stations, cos gasoline there is a crap.
