If you can gain access to a cap and ball revolver, many have simple drop-in conversions to accept cartridges.
Buy a percussion revolver, and conversion kit. Buy spent shell from eBay or whatever, and all other required components to make your cartridge. You may need to make your own primer with soda can aluminum and matchstick heads, your own powder from supplies sold at gardening store (exact powder recipes easy to find online). Put them all together with reference from a reloading guide, and you have a complete cartridge.
Obviously, you. Need to pick what cartridge you're building before you start any of this. Base your choices on what conversion kits are available, but don't go with anything too small. You wouldn't want to end up a vegetable instead of dead.
