i prefer super mario 64 ds on an emulator on PC streaming to my tablet while driving.

good game but not enough of a challenge

It was probably the single best transition to 3D for any video game franchise.

>Oldfag who has not played it since it was fucking new.
I remember it being ok, and really fun for the time. But the new one is really fun, and has a bit more replay value.

Keep in mind... I went from Super Mario 64 to Odyssey. I never owned a game cube... After the late 90s I went to school and got a job etc... so it has only been this console generation that I was able to get back into gaming - with some minor PC gaming here and there.

close but zelda was better

dude you never played super mario sunshine? that game is fucking great

odyssey? abes world?

The ending to Mario 64 is one of the cutest and heartwarming things I've seen in a game.

>Game completely changes the Mario franchise
>Collect stars in worlds to advance vs beating a level
>Different hat mechanics to change how to approach levels
>So long gay bowser

8/10

Turning Mario from a 2D side scroller to a 3D was the most retarded thing they ever did.

I will admit the 2D games are better

Do do-do do do-dooooo

>lets pickle!

I beat it less than 10 hours. Waste of $60

>not tilting your cartridge so it sounds like a demonic chant made with sentient glass being shattered

lol you actually paid full price for a mario title? mario games were the least sold most pawned cartridges in any pawn shop. Jesus you could have gotten it for free AND had a 120 star save on it from the get go

I wasn't a poorfag, cost didnt matter, didn't mean it wasn't a waste though

richfags don't get to waste money

listen my moms boyfriend would have bought me anything to keep me out of their room in the evening. I may have been a 25 year old jobless leech but there was no way i was going to get something that was used.

This. It was too short also. Wouldn't mind a remaster with some added content.

its already had several remasters. The last one i played even let you play as yoshi and unluck luigi

I think DK64 is extremely underrated.

NO ONE ASKED YOU FGT

nah dude that game kinda sucked

I remember just sitting at the game select screen as a kid and listening to this. Loved this tune more than any other track in the game.

Are you talking about ROM hacks? I still have loads of those downloaded I haven't even played yet.

no i think the last DS version let you play as luigi or yoshi without using a hacked rom

Why am I the only one who loves this game?

I played that forever ago when the DS first came out. It was the main reason I got one. Wasn't bad. The mini-games were my favorite part.

did you ever play DKC 1,2 or 3? most people i talk to were unhappy with it because of expectations

too bad we'll never see a banjo kazooie or tooie for switch

Good

I didn't play DKC until just a few years ago on an emulator. I was never a huge fan of platformers (except SMB). I've only played the first one, and I didn't really care for it much. It was fun enough to play, but not if I had any other game sitting around.

shit maybe you are just weird. I've never talked to anyone that didnt like 1 of the DKC titles at least

I know nothing about the Switch, and so far, most of it's games don't interest me. If they made a Banjo Kazooie or Tooie for Switch, I'd consider buying a used one.

That game had all the things that made Banjo-Tooie shit with nothing that made it good. Huge bloated levels, unlockable moves that exist to gatekeep you from content (you have to learn how to pull a lever, and you can only do it as DK). Backtracking to play each level for each kong just to get enough nanners. Horrible bugs everywhere, shitty framerate issues. Overall just a crap Banjo knockoff and an insult to an otherwise flawless series.

>maybe you are just weird
I've always felt that way with DKC. You're not the first one to tell me how great it is. Long before I tried it, I had people around me who'd never stop telling me to try it. Only finally did because I was looking for a new ROM host after Nintendo's crusade killed LoveROMS, and I found a random copy and figured why the hell not?

ough..... what a game

I was a kid when I played DK64, and didn't care about any of that shit. I just knew what fun was, and DK64 was fun. I still play it. I don't mind the backtracking. You only had to do that with two levels anyway. The only bug I ever found I only discovered thanks to a Youtube video, and I don't know if you played on an emulator or an original N64, but I never had a frame drop. And having to learn moves to progress is in many games. It keeps the game from being too straight forward. The game would otherwise be boring as hell.

Got me dizzy and lost in levels I actually think it was overrated at the time. Maybe now if you want another one of the same shit you can appreciate it.

blew my little ten-year-old mind. I couldn't stop playing. It still holds up decently well, and speedruns of this game are really entertaining

Yeah I'm gonna go with Zelda and Ocarina of Time, but it's really close. Also throw Metroid Prime in there. It's tough to explain to people just how mind-blowing it was going from the 3D games to amazing 3D games seamlessly like these series did

I think I got all 120 stars then a tweeker stole my console and cartridge.

Really, it was the best Mario. Kick flip into a wall jump and hover to places you could never reach, awesome and unmatched.

Not used to playing a game without a map? You just didn't play enough. At least DK64 wasn't some shitty labyrinthian-style game with like four textures like pic related. They even put mazes in some of the later levels. It was ridiculous. THIS game was overrated.

T. 14 year old sonygger

The fact these never remade the DS remake irks me to no end. If these assholes did it, I'd be forced to buy a switch.

Mario 64 is the best game to emulate on business trips using a dongle and a 360 controller. I've beaten the game at least 20 times this way.

Remake was better, but it is fun to look at and run around in. Even if the graphics are a bit crusty.

I got all 120 stars 3 times, was on the 4th slot when I got bored.

I thought it was a great game. The levels were creative, the music was dank, and the character mechanics were fresh at the time. I still love and actually 100% for the first time last year. However I do recognize it as deeply flawed
