Isn't it part of the design that they can't even bite hard enough to get through human skin? That'd make them absolutely non-viable in the wilderness as anything but a herbivore despite the fact that they can be omnivorous on their own foals and whatever a human feeds them.

Fluffy teeth are usually described as having the texture/hardness of a hard rubber and are designed more to grind than bite. That's why they're able to eat kibble and sketti in addition to most plant life in the wild. There's also nowhere near the jaw strength behind their bites as say a human's. It's probably on par, if weaker than your average housecat. Trust me, I don't buy the "fluffies biting off pieces of other fluffies/foals" bullshit either. If a fluffy were to eat a foal, they'd have to swallow it whole.

Unless, if course, foals had the bone structure of a baby bird when born. Even then, they wouldn't be able to bite clean through. Essentially, they'd just mash bones and internal organs until the foal was an amorphous meat bag.

I mean, I'd believe them biting through things with herbivore teeth configuration. Not without a lot of effort and especial zest of the bite - which would make the 'eating a foal' thing more traumatic.

That and it's never quite addressed if fluffies are truly diurnal or only really do that because of the inherent fear of the dark. Would fluffies be better off crepuscular like cats?

On the first subject, that's even assuming that fluffies have any desire for sexual behavior outside reproduction. When talking about "enfies" it's usually with the goal of conceiving in mind. This can be disrupted with the deviance that is smarty syndrome.

On the second subject, apparently their night vision is bad enough most fluffies prefer to sleep with a nightlight or in front of a running TV in domestic settings. Their vision doesn't appear to extend beyond that distance of your average living room space, but I'm just guessing here. I do know that their eyesight isn't the greatest, though.

I'd say that to create something that's both living with basically chimera DNA in a biodiverse environment like what a fluffy would be, they'd have to use the general pre-made pathways that exist in the animals they sourced from, so borrowing those kinds of traits from regular animals wouldn't be so far afield.

On the topic of vision - that would explain a lot of things about why fluffies do so poorly in a wild environment since they've got the focal distance of an underground creature like a mole vs something that's meant to live above ground. That and their maladaptation to needing artificial light to supplement their vision. Seems like that would also tie into the idea that they're programmed with a a fear of the dark as a part of the punishment pathways since the whole sorry-box concept hinges on their distaste for sensory deprivation.

Anyway, I'd say those behaviors regarding non-reproductive sex are there, but are by and large programmed out. Thus why they appear (and appear so violently) in flawed "smarty" specimens.

Back on nightvision, night survival is probably the hardest thing for a feral fluffy to overcome. A surefire way to catch an inexperienced feral would be to set up a light source to draw the fluffies in. I'd say more experienced fluffs that have stayed alive in the wilderness probably just shut down at night, going straight to sleep to avoid facing the dark hours. That, or if you take a herd that has somehow survived to reach multiple generations, they could have hyperadapted to have a better time seeing in the dark.

As for street fluffies, they likely never grow out of their fear of the dark, congregating near any well-hidden light source like a lamp in an alleyway or a streetlight in an abandoned parking lot.

On the night vision - Most artists depict them saying that dark time is the time for sleep and they generally bed down in enclosed areas as dens, e.g. in a hollow of a tree or under some rocks, in a cave, etc.

However I'd agree that the urbanite fluffies that are normally depicted in back alley cardboard boxes would never be in a position to adapt good night vision because of the amount of light pollution in a modern/ postmodern (Cyberpunk) city. On the city side of things, I'm actually most curious about the whole foal for spaghetti machine. Half the depictions are that the machine's just a grinder that spits out the ground corpse of the baby back to the parent to consume but some have them as collection boxes for shelters
