Are there any sites that have real footage like is being proposed here?

This is an incredible opportunity, but the challenges seems pretty daunting to me.

The first challenge is mitigated with a wifi-capable camera. But having multiple devices with the same name on the wifi (I forget what it's called) might be noticeable if someone's paying attention. Change the names if possible.

Power might be the biggest challenge. How are the dorm rooms constructed? The walls and ceilings. Concrete blocks, or drywall, or what? Drywall would be a little more flexible in that you could try to punch in and wire the cameras to one of the existing outlets. Then patch all your holes and repaint. Pain in the ass but if you plan ahead and keep the amount of damage to repair to a minimum it would go unnoticed. If it's a drop ceiling you might be able to do all your installation up there.

As for POV, I think it's best to place the camera at waist level or lower, but pointed up. But that's a matter of opinion. You could hide it in the base board. But where? I feel like there's a good chance it'll get covered by furniture or just by putting their stuff down against the wall.

You could try to cut into the wall to "install" an electrical box. I forget what they're called...gang boxes? Like you'd use for an outlet or a light switch. The point is it's just a void. Put the camera there and cover with a blank wall plate (with a hole for the lens to see out of). I see those all the time and don't think anything of them.

You could also create some kind of innocuous housing and place the camera outside the window (so the lens is looking into the room). I'm imagining a small "project" box with gaskets to make it weather proof. Make it look like it was always there with caulk, etc. The wiring could then run down the outside of the building and to wherever you want.

No problem there everyone there is pretty illiterate with computers and im the sole person with the wifi admin password to check.

Yeah it seems like this part is going to take the most prep. The walls are concrete blocks and seem pretty damn unworkable. On the celling front I have no idea. With the picam above I could have the cams installed into the room and have the pi either in my room or a friendly room which is close (i have allies in my quest) so that it can be plugged into a wall inconspicuously.

Ideally multiple POV but this can make the task much harder. Id like bed shots and shots of them if theyre infront of the wardrobe as well as some waist level and lower. In a perfect world having a mic near the beds would be nice too. Ive considered firealarms clothing hooks and maybe hollowing out the wardrobe/dresser handles and fitting them in there. Either way multiple cams would be ideal to avoid having one covered and ruining the entire setup in that room.

You're going to have to put some effort into it if you're going to do this.

You're not going to be able to keep wifi cameras powered indefinitely you need to learn some basic electrician shit and wire them up yourself.

I've done security system work for a living and let me tell you. Cameras go down, it's not if it's when it's much harder when they're wireless. I suggest POE cameras.

Fake fire alarm is risky man, someone inevitably is going to pull it and when it doesn't work they'll call maintenance (assuming that's not you) the jig is up.

You might not like the angle but get a real working fire alarm that has a camera in it (Amazon). Someone pulls it off to check they're not the wiser.

Check out spy hobbiest stores online for ideas and you'll eventually find a workable solution.

Also if you do this and get caught you're going to jail for a while and will be a sex offender. I'm sure I don't have to tell you how shitty that will be for you

I have a fail safe here: the ceiling is quite high meaning that to fuck around with a fire alarm you probably need step ladders. Added on with the fact that when someone calls maintenance they do it for the entire block meaning I get a copy of that email ergo I have time to remove any traces of it, or at the very least put things into place so things can't come back to me.

no problem on this front, stem student who has done some electronics in the lab so I know how do fuck around with things if I have to.
