Comparing medians does not tell you whether there is a statistically significant difference. If there is a mass shooting in Vatican tomorrow their median rate will surpass every other country. But taking the population in account it might still be insignificant. There are more complex calculations that take into account other variables telling you whether there really is a statistically significant difference.
