what's the best way to get into space? is it easier to get a job as an astronaut, or to make enough money that you could buy your way to space?

finance a space elevator

It's probably easier to buy your way in.

How deep you need to go, user?

Tie some baloons to a chair and you'll get close enough really.

There aren't many destinations in space right now. The space station is the main one, and less than 250 people have ever been there. It's very unlikely you'll go to space.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_International_Space_Station_visitors

i figure with spacex making travel cheaper, it'll only be more available as time goes on. i think we were born too early to have big boy space exploration, but a lifetime is a long time for technology development. maybe we're looking at the start of it.

>make enough money that you could buy your way to space

you have to be selected which requires extensive education and references and then you have to actually undergo training ending in various test to actually qualify you to be an astronaut

>Ansari became the fourth (and first female) space tourist. Her contract did not allow for disclosure of the amount paid, but previous space tourists have paid in excess of $20 million USD. The space craft docked with the International Space Station (ISS) on Wednesday September 20, 2006, at 05:21 (UTC).

20 million is quite a bit to drop.

...

1. Vote out Trump
2. Fund NASA

>>>/fag/

No really. Go ask /sci/. You think a bunch of Yea Forumstards are that knowledgeable about space stuff?

Space Tourism is becoming a thing.
revfine.com/space-tourism/

Like there's going to be any money left over for NASA after the doors open to millions of new welfare recipients, everyone no matter how stupid gets free college and the blacks get "reparations"

But only if you're rich.

It'll be at least 50 years before the average person can afford it. Maybe much longer than that.

somehow I bet the step one is your answer for everything

You are aware that Trump (and Pence) actually support NASA, right? Trump wants NASA to go back to the moon ASAP.

The SLS still sucks though, considering it'll cost like $2 billion per flight, and it gets thrown away each time.

Underrated post is underrated

Give yourself a boost with some bottle rockets OP!

There are a lot more millionaires than astronauts

Don't I know it. I read R.A. Heinlein's "The moon is a harsh mistress" as a teen in the '70's. Had nope of being in a lunar retirement community by this time. Now I'm 58 and it's just not going to happen.

1. create a business to compete with Amazon
2. get rich
3. go to space

It's that simple.

you probably aren't

yeah that's unfortunate. i'm in my early 20's, and even now i look at kids today and i wish that i had been born later. it's unfortunate i'll die when the world is so young, and our knowledge is so incomplete.

>Space Tourism is becoming a thing
for rich people

>after NIGGERS TAKE MY MONEY
>NIGGER
>NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER
just get it off your chest so we can move on user lol

Never said I was. But Yea Forums really isn't the place for an actual convo about space.

Even reddit's a much better choice.

Think of how far we could have gotten if we didn't have flat earthers running this country wasting money on "wars" in Asia.

You aren't a mod
go back to your trap porn

OP and I can and will discuss the space program without your blessing. Fuck off.

>flat earthers running this country

LOLWUT_PEAR.JPG

Dude would suffocate.

I don't like trap porn.

I do enjoy a good rocket that's shaped like a penis though.

Trump's administration is as close to a Flat Earth Presidency we've had yet.

Who doesn't? Now we're talking.

this cost (adjusted) 21,000$ a month to use in 1960. it could store 4000 bits, or 0.5 kilobytes of data with the most expensive unit.

computers are different from space travel, but the point i'm making is that the future is very hard to predict.

I don't even know what that comment means.

I'm not a Trump fan -- AT ALL -- but you're just talking absolute nonsense.

That isn't "space tourism" user.
Space tourism is where some richfag does a sub-orbit trip that costs him roughly 15 million dollars. I don't know wtf you're talking about.

They don't believe in science, user. Republicans in general don't. And if we hadn't elected Reagan we would have been on Mars by now.

So... ALL Republicans are unvaccinated and think the Earth is not a spheroid but is actually flat. Is that what you're saying?

Bush wasted 6 trillion dollars in Iraq and Afghanistan that could have been used to take us to Mars. Reagan wanted the space program funds to be diverted to weapons use.
They're flat earthers user. It's a figurative expression and you know I'm right.

Space? You mean low earth orbit. There's no escape from the pain train

>thinking that 6 trillion is enough to go to Mars

That's sad. Besides, decreasing the human population is a worthy endeavour. The real problem is that the 6 trillion didn't kill MORE people.

I'd beat your fucking ass.

Use your words.

ok I hope you get a mighty beatdown from the cosmos for making such a misanthropic missive behind the safety of your keyboard.

Just one fucking time you faggot, just once I'd like to go a thread without seeing you retards bitching like a class full of bratty little girls.

We're the adults user. If you have a problem with either of the items on the list, you're a manlet like your President.

Go try Yea Forums champ, you just know they'll bite that shit all night.

I'm not the evil you think I am. You've misread a little bit. But I welcome whatever judgement that awaits me.

This is one reason why Yea Forums isn't the best place for talking about space. Threads devolve too quickly here.

I think this is a very valid critique. I like Yea Forums because it moves quickly and sometimes you get some truly qualified responses, but it's often like reaching into an overflowing toilet and hoping to find a diamond. More often than not you just get a handful of shit.

Very astute. I like you.

You're not going to live to go to space.

Probably none of us are.

The current record for living in space is just a little more than a year.

It'll probably be 100 years before people actually live beyond Earth.

You're not going to live any sort of meaningful life either so stuff it fag.

Attached: ares mars-plane.jpg (480x322, 77K)

Lead by example.

Look at me! I'm floating around in space!

Lead your mouth to my nuts.

Attached: retrograde motion.gif (400x300, 492K)

Just think though. If weren't for all that cosmic radiation we'd probably have the foundations already.

not to disqualify the novelty of space travel, but actually living long-term on another planet is probably not that interesting. mars is a fairly featureless desert. combined with the unbreathable atmosphere, you'd spend most of the time inside a habitat. any journey outside would be like walking the atacama desert in a tethered diving suit. i'd say anything on earth is going to be more interesting than anything on mars.
space is comparatively more interesting, but it's so shockingly vast. i like this site as a demonstration:

That animation bores me. It's doesn't explain anything clearly.

What did he mean by this

Attached: ISS construction.gif (400x225, 1.56M)

Stop it with the wishing thinking.

We're not going to get rid of radiation from the Sun.

Any "foundations" are going to be lined with lead or water.

That animation also sucks.

I know it took ~35 shuttle launches, and over $100 billion, to create the ISS.

That animation doesn't educate anyone.

With a rocket

..and Moon/Mars tunnels.

People will live underground for a very long time.

just build a large enough balloon to support your weight and carry you up there

You sound gay.

Attached: eruption.gif (512x512, 749K)

An Io animation doesn't support your argument.

Space elevator. Once we have the materials worked out. So get rich

>Space elevator

Maybe that'll happen, in the very far off future of Neverland.

I know, it's just there for fun. Your posts support my argument fine enough homo.

That's another thing about Yea Forums... there's a LOT of sex talk here... people who are struggling or in denial or just bragging. It's all over the place.

>there's a LOT of sex talk here
Not the user you were talking to. But I would say there's a pretty normal amount of sex talk here. Sex (and sex talk) isn't inherently evil or low class or anything really. It's just a thing people do.

I agree, except when people use it as an insult. There's deeper meaning to that.

Being one of the rich as fuck people that got to ride the earliest Zeppelin was out of the common mans reach. A century later and plane tickets are readily available. Space travel will be there one day
