American corporations will not allow him to run wild and take billions out of their pockets to give to middle class. Insurance companies will not allow him to put them out of business. And republicans will not allow him to be the supreme progressive force he wants to be.

Before, I could just walk into a hospital if I had an emergency, or even for something less serious- like an allergic reaction. Now, in the US (WA, liberal state), I am terrified of going to the hospital simply because I will be put in so much debt that will inevitably cripple me for years. I avoid going to the doctor for health problems, and default to googling my symptoms and buying OTC drugs, and home remedies, instead of getting the care that I need. The healthcare situation in this country is absolutely fucking backwards.

Wha? I've gone to the Emergency room uninsured. I'd fallen off of a ladder and sliced my leg open trying to catch myself. I walked in, doctor looked at me, cleaned the injury, and stitched me up, and wrote me a prescription for antibiotics afterwards. They didn't deny me healthcare because I was uninsured. I got the bill later, and since I didn't stay in the hospital overnight (which is admittedly ludicrously expensive, but the moral there is don't get admitted. Get treatment and leave.) my total bill (including prescription) was about $1600. That's expensive, sure, but that's less than what I would pay for health insurance in a year.
Now, if I had a chronic illness like diabetes or crohns or hepatitis or I suspected I might be developing a serious condition like cancer, I would get insured first. Or, hell, run with no insurance 99% of the time, and then if you start to feel kinda sick, get insurance, get your tests/treatment, and then drop your insurance once they've covered your medical expenses. Chasing after that shit will destroy you, because it's not a "one and done okay you're fixed get out" scenario.

Nah. Every November is open enrollment. Feel kinda sick in July? For emergency services you can still go to the hospital any time you want, but if you've just got some concerning symptoms, try to tough it out til November and then just enroll in a really good insurance with no out of pocket expenses. Get your tests and diagnosis, and if it's something that a round of antibiotics will fix, great. If it's not, switch to an insurance with a cheaper monthly premium now that all your expensive tests are pretty much done with and just get coverage for prescriptions and followups. If whatever you have is gonna become untreatable/deadly in 4 months, then you were fucked even with insurance.

None of the insurance companies I've been with have asked for my medical history. Even then, it's illegal to deny someone insurance based on pre-existing conditions. Maybe your insurance will be more expensive, but not unpayable.
Or just settle with the hospital out of court. My sister has diabetes and doesn't have insurance. You hear stories about people that die because they ration insulin because they don't want to go to the emergency room and get charged obscene amounts of money.
Not my sister. She's out of insulin and can't get more for a while? She'll just go to the Emergency room and ask for some. They'll run her around for a couple hours, do tests to make sure she isn't going into diabetic ketoacidosis, and at the end she'll leave with enough insulin for 2 weeks. Long enough to get her hands on some if life's run away on her.
Later, she'll receive a bill from the hospital for $6000. And she won't pay it. So then the hospital says it'll sue her for the expenses. So she calls the hospital's legal department and requests to settle out of court. She offers $1800. They demand $4500. She offers $3000. They demand $3500. She says $3200 is really the most I can do. They accept. Bill goes away.
Now, $3200 is not an insignificant amount of money. You don't want to do that shit every month, or even every 6 months. But if you can't eat an unexpected $3000 expense every year, you need to look at your budgeting. A $3000 per year safety net is an absolute necessity.
And as an aside, my sister doesn't make $70,000 per year. She makes about $25,000 per year as a bartender. And she can manage that. It pisses her off when she has to do that, because it's her own fault and she knows what she has to do to avoid it, but she just looks in her fridge and goes "FUCK! I'm out of insulin! Goddammit!"

Because you'll have a growing population of people that take from the system but don't contribute to it, like the unemployed or the retired or the disabled. Or the undocumented. Or the homeless. Canada is doing alright for now, though there was a Quebec Supreme Court decision to allow private insurance because wait times in that province were actually being considered human rights violations, but Britain's NHS is getting shaky.
