Out of these mass shootings, only a very small percentile are considered lethal mass shootings (When you start seeing high body counts like the most recent one at the Walmart.) So with the ladder considered, if someone shoots three people and they themselves are killed by a citizen or police officer, was a lethal mass shooting just prevented? It is an impossible question to answer but we do know that mass shootings alone usually end in the perp being killed by a law abiding citizen. With data from the FBI from 2018, we see that there aren't many armed citizens present during the 283ish mass shootings, only being present at 33 of these incidents. Out of those 33 incidents, 75% of the armed citzens stopped the mass shooting themselves. So really there is a window of helpfulness to being an armed citizen in America from this small amount of data. You want to know my honest thoughts on this matter though? This is a fad. Copy cats have always been prevalent in crime. I can't tell you how to end it but super strict gun laws is not the answer.
