As far as I understand, California law doesn't have anything against living in the car, as long as you aren't parked in a place with restrictions. I would watch out for being seen asleep in the car, because a thief would love to find you in there at 4am, break your window and your head, and take off with your wallet, backpack, and phone.

It's not that easy. You need a stable place to live and transportation because you have to go to MEPS like a hundred fucking times. You also need an address, all of your original documents, etc. It's not like the 1940s where you just sign a piece of paper and off you go.

Barstow. It's just this weird old city that has a train route running through it, it's pretty much a pit stop for people going to Vegas. There's one little plaza that's alright and it's just full of tourists, but outside that it is fucking g h e t t o. You will 100% get robbed in Barstow.

I was going to go into the Navy and it was like a 2 month process for me. Had to keep coming back for stupid reasons, and it was all the way in San Diego (3 hour drive) AND on top of that I chose a really great job and so my waiting period was 6 months and I had to always go to the stupid little recruit meetings. Never ended up going to bootcamp though, I went into MEPS for the final time on my ship date and they told me after all that I wasn't going in as the job I wanted and they changed my contract for "the best interest of the US military" so I walked right the fuck out lmao.
