Question

Question.

Is enjoying alcohol alone the behaviour of an alcoholic?

Should alcohol ONLY be used for socialising?

If you aren't physically addicted and it's not causing negative effects in your life there is no issue in how you enjoy it.

I've actually had a long standing debate about this with my friends. They seem to think that yes it is a behavior of an alcoholic but they also smoke pot religiously everyday where as I only drink on weekends so idk

Very well said. If it isn’t causing issues in your life and it’s not an everyday thing there’s nothing wrong with it. I love getting a good buzz and playing on my Xbox.

You know what those people are called? Hypocrites.

I only drink alone and I am an alcoholic. But I drink alone because if others are around they won't let me drink as much as I like. So I drink by myself and they don't have to stress over it.

I drink alone, and yes: I am an alcoholic. I am emotionally and, I'm sure at this point, physically dependent on it...But the thing that makes me an alcoholic is the emotional and physical dependence, not the fact that I drink alone.

Look up the CAGE test for alcoholism, I think it's a good one. It doesn't mention enjoying booze alone.

I drink a bottle of wine in my car on the way home and then another bottle in front of my wife. I just drink straight from the bottle. It takes only 3-4 pulls to finish a bottle. Now it’s saturday I’ll drink 6 today, 6 tomorrow then go to to work on Monday feeling like death and shaking.
I want off this ride.

An alcoholic literally can't function without copious amounts of alcohol daily. That is definitely not the same as just enjoying alcohol.

Not necessarily. It depends on WHY you are drinking. Are you trying to get fucked up? Or are you enjoying a glass of wine, or a little scotch?

I'd say if your goal is to get fucked up, then maybe you're an alcoholic. There's another layer to that. How frequently are you engaging in this behavior? Are you getting shitfaced by yourself everyday? If so, then it's pretty obvious.

I keep a bottle of bourbon at my bedside. It helps with the night terrors.

People like to come home from work and sip on some beers etc... Theres nothing wrong with that.

I've drank alcohol all day, every day since Tuesday last week.
I feel like death would be preferable.

Alcohol really isn't that big of a deal. Don't aim to get fucked up. Aim to have a good time with something you enjoy a couple times a week.

Seriously. Treating Alcohol as a big deal has only worsened the problem.

You should see a doctor buddy.

There's nothing wrong with having a drink by yourself to unwind, like a scotch, a cold beer or some wine. However, if you are looking forward to getting fucked up by yourself ever night with the sole goal of getting shit faced, then you probably have a problem.

I put back a 6 pack almost every night. Successful life and job. Occasionally I'll kick back a fifth on a weekend night. On a good riff I'll slam back 3 mixers in a night and piss in my gfs laundry.

I consider my alcoholism a hobby. I drink whenever the fuck I want with or without who I want.

To answer your question yes drinking alone is a /behavior of/ alcoholism but /does not/ mean your an alcoholic.

>A bottle of wine
>In the car on the way home

Seriously kys bro before you kill someone else. Or go to a ghetto and do both of the things at once.

i'll just have 4-5 pints on weekend, usually on my own

i can't go out cus it usually ends depressingly due to other people so i prefer myself

Why are you so fucking dumb? No one's holding a gun to your head. Have some fucking willpower you fucking weakling.

Well, I'm older so I may be biased, but no there is nothing wrong with being an alcoholic as long as you can function. I drink roughly 300ml of whiskey a day, more on weekends, and have done so for over 10 years. I plan to keep going. I have an actual career as deputy director of a rather consequential gov't agency. If I fuck up, it hurt's people for real, so you have to learn where that fine line is between being hung over or functional. I screw up on occasion, but that happens. I don't party or do crazy shit, I just like to get drunk, turn my brain off and watch tv or screw around on the internet. I stopped drunk driving years ago after moving downtown where I can walk places. So, if you're not hurting anyone, you can perform well at your job, and you generally contribute rather than cost society there is nothing wrong with being a closet drunk.

You just have to plan accordingly and not lie to yourself like 'oh I should be sober by then' and shit like that.

Go to detox then a 90 day inpatient treatment center then AA.

Do you have night terrors of being a sober person or something?

Those fucking gremlins hate the smell of booze on your breath.

Is it normal to go to other people's homes and take sips of their beers while they're not home?

Lol at willpower. Doesn’t understand the diseased physical midbrain of an alcoholic.

mmm fresh urine. yummy

Greets from Russia by the way

Understand? Did it start with a physical problem? Hmm??? Your excuses don't start till the problem was already there.

Yeah, things were so much better back in your day. Kids are too weak nowadays.

Wow you're so cool.

Hank is that you?
How's Sumo?

Just stop then. Taper your self off it. Drink 5 today and 5 tomorrow.

No one was holding a gun to his head when he started drinking a bottle of wine in the car. No one was holding a gun to his head when he started drinking six bottles of cheap wine a day that makes him smell like a filthy hobo.

Aww... but do cry for the little shit after he kills a family because he has a Bad Brain.

Fuckin 10/10. I had a good laugh about the GF's laundry. I'd buy you a beer.

What do people like you think of people like me that Advocate for taking Naloxone off our streets?

That drug doesn't belong anywhere outside of an Ambulance or a Hospital.

I am not Hank, nor do I understand any reference you might be making. Sumo wrestling? Now I am quite confused.

It's not that easy. You stop drinking even a little less than you have been, you can't sleep, you're in an ever worse state than you were and you kick right back perhaps even drinking more to compensate.

Don't underestimate tolerance to Alcohol.

Guy needs to see a doctor.

It can save lives but I suppose your of the opinion that addicts lives aren’t worth saving?

No and no
It could be if you were an alcoholic, but if you aren't then you're only enjoying it alone

If this is an AA meeting, let's get on to step 8 and talk about the worst we fucked someone over while drunk.

You first.

I believe people are born alcoholic/addicts. The first time you take a drink or drug to change the way you feel (cope with feelings) you activate the alcoholism/addiction lying dormant in your brain.

i drink alone and im not an alcoholic.you do realize some people are introverts that perfer to be alone?

Obviously he shouldn’t drink and drive, I’m just saying willpower alone doesn’t work.

you're posting in a drunk thread user, that guy is probably wasted as hell

Step 8 is to make a list of all persons we had harmed. You talking about step 5? Admitting the exact nature of our wrongs to ourself god and another human being?

Hey. Why are you being so quiet?

that was my rule, not as much as socializing but drink with someone, never alone. i Used to give away shots and beers in uni whenever i wanted to drink... now opiates on the other hand...

Enjoying alcohol alone has nothing to do with addiction. Addiction to alcohol is what defines alcoholism.

If a person needs to be drinking alcohol to enjoy social activities with friends and is constantly drinking when socializing but never drinks alone, they are an alcoholic. Use of a substance alone or with people does not define addiction to said substance. Dependency on the substance is what defines addiction.

I thought about that, but for the sake of an entertaining thread, I figured I would cut to the chase and mingle the core concept into a single straightforward prompt.

In my opinion alcohol should be consumed almost exclusively for socialising or celebration. Some exceptions might be when you're having a really shitty day and you pour yourself a glass of scotch.

If you drink more than 10 oz of strong alcohol every night be it directly from the bottle or in a cocktail without any company all the 7 days of the week you have a problem.

I enjoy drinking something before going to bed so I don't really need anyone bothering me while I drink.

the dumbest think i read today... no in a month+, thanks

Your opinion is shit. It's fine to unwind after a hard days work, on your days off, any reason at all really. It's always a good time to drink. There is always a reason I can think of. What, doea that make me an alcoholic?!?

if you have more than 5 drinks a week... yup

"Alcohol should only be enjoyed for its taste and not for the inebriation that may follow excessive consumption." - Adolf Hitler, 1941

That’s cool. Substance abuse disorder is in the DSM-5 with all ‘regular’ diseases though...

lol what a faggot

Why da fuck you feel the need to drink in social occasions?
You love the taste of wine/beer/scotch/mezcal--?
Then drink it o your own (or with friends, doesn't matter).
Don't be that kid who drinks to feel more confident, that's pathetic, stupid and british.

Does... does that little girl have a mustache? Can't unsee.

I smell the stink of an Irishman.

kek

This. Seriously, DT from alcohol can kill you. That's why people going into treatment are under medical supervision for the first couple days.

Hell yeah. Idk I dont get why people dont just come to terms with it. Its 2019 we got people out there with wieners for butts. Why cant we have a God damned drink.

but alcohol tastes like shit

Alcohol is a slippery slope to physical dependence. You wake up one day in your late 20s and need a beer to calm your nerves so you can drive into your deadend job.

Yeah because all normal people drink after work. You're obviously an alcoholic, mate.

I'm not your mate, bruh.

I'm not your bruh, pal.

Psilocybin micro dosing is helping lots of alcoholics kick drinking.

Search reddit r/microdosing and do a search for alcohol.
