AMT made a 1911 .22 mag AutoMag back in the day. Never shot one but I heard they were fair to good in terms of reliability. With a bit of nigger luck you can get one on Gun Broker for sub $500

A buddy of mine let me shoot off a couple of clips from his sr22 at the range a few weeks ago and it was pretty good to shoot. He had it loaded with CCI Stingers and I could easily see using one as a concealed gun.

A cheap Marlin Model 60 .22lr is fun as fuck to go plinking or small game hunting with. You can pick them up used for $80-120 or so.

I own 4 Ruger SR22s. Well worth it, well worth it.

Left handed, looking for a daily carry. Trying to decide between a SR9c, PPQ M2, or M&P Shield. All 9mm. Anyone shot these? I'm assuming the Shield probably has seeing its pretty popular.

I want it for a concealed carry gun. I know "stopping powar blah, blah, 9mm, blah blah 380.." but if there's one thing I've learned over the years it's that no one wants to get shot and pulling out a gun by itself can de-escalate a lot of situations and letting off the first shot is usually enough to send an attacker/thief running if it doesn't kill him. For that reason a .22lr ain't really a bad option.

Stats have shown something like 80% of encounters end without a shot fired after a gun is brought into play by the would-be victim.
Besides, the SR22 is controllable enough that rapid double taps are entirely possible to the chest.
My one and only complaint is lack of bigger mags for them. I’d love a 14-16 rounder.

Much, then again you’re talking a $550-$800 gun depending on the model. The all metal construction helps tame recoil much better, it’s very pleasant to shoot on your hands even after putting 100-200 rounds through it in an afternoon, and for a 1911 style gun, they are very forgiving on ammo choices - never had a FTF or FTE using JHP, FMJ, etc.
Downside is it is single action only. If you’re not used to that, you’ll need to practice with it a lot for that muscle memory to kick in.

Unless a .22 hits the skull at a right angle, it may not even penetrate.
The idea behind "stop" rather than "kill" is to quickly stop someone from doing what they are doing.
A knife through the heart will kill, in about 15 seconds.
A baseball bat to the chest will stop someone from doing something for at least a few seconds.
For that reason, I carry a 357 mag and my go to gun for a bump in the night is a 44 mag.
Either will get someones attention anywhere the bullet connects.
