The question is a straw man, since very few Democrats do.
However, I can speak for the tiny minority who do support open borders. For us, it's a matter of the basic human right to free movement on this planet.
The idea that a person should be granted or restricted this right on the basis of their geographic location of birth — something over which they have no control — is fundamentally unfair.
I realize that an open borders policy would come at great costs, but sometimes doing the right thing is costly.
